Is Wal-Mart slowly stopping ammo sales?

Holy shotgun shells BATMAN! our local SW PA Walmart hasn't had that many shells in a year!!!!! They had one box of Winchester AAA 12 gauge and federal 22 shells 333 boxes for $17.50 today.....The Winchester $7.75 a box....The none working crowd wiped them out by the time I got off work.

Poor mans buckshot for HD

I had a friend over 40 yrs ago who had a coupla single barrel shotguns and wanted some HD ammo as they lived in the woods. His wife wasn't up to firing High brass buckshot and he asked me if I had any ideas. I had him bring me a few rounds of his birdshot in both 20 and 12 gauge shells. I opened them up and replaced the shot with light .30 caliber rifle bullets and round balls then dribbled bird shot back around them and closed them back up and a little airplane glue in the middle of the crimp. After they had a day to dry I rolled them on a table with my hand to make them round and gave them back. I was casting then and all I had in them was some wheel weights. We went to a place folks had thrown their unwanted junk and found an old refrigerator. From 7yds they made a mess out of all of the sides of the old fridge. I don't think it was really good combat ammo, but it beat what they had and didn't cost much. 130gr carbine bullets at 1,000 fps hitting at odd angles and cast round balls with the bird shot mixed in. I damn sure didn't want to be shot with it........

Stopped in a Walmart about 45 minutes from home yesterday as it was next door to a Lowe's where I was buying some spray paint. Toured through the sporting goods. There on the ammo shelves behind the locked glass was a lonely single box of CCI 22lr Quiet (795FPS) for $3.94. I passed leaving it for someone else as I don't shoot low velocity. The gal behind the counter said they are starting to get maybe a case of ammo every few days.

Wow! There was actually someone behind the counter? At my WM, you have to search for an associate, they page the sporting goods associate. Shows up, but no keys and doesn't know who has them.

The last time I bought ammo at Walmart was in 2013. Bought the last 3 boxes of .223 they had. Haven't seen it since. Used to go in the store once a week, but now I bet it's been two years since I've been to a Walmart.

I stopped by on Wednesday and all my WM has were 4 one hundred packs of Winchester "Universal" 12 gauge shells for $24 each. I bought 2 as I need something in case I want to shoot some sporting clays if it ever warms up.

I have 2 friends who are suppose to be reloading Double AA's for me, but they are going slow.

Not a single Walmart near me has had anything other than the sporadic box of shotgun shells for over a year.

Every time I drive by the local WM, there's a police presence responding to a shoplifting, mugging, carjacking, whatever. Another nearby WM was the site of a shootout between three cars in the parking lot. 50+ shell casings recovered. The only time I actually go inside is to pick up diabetic test strips for my fiancee. Even then I feel I should be wearing a HazMat suit. It's a toxic environment.

I prefer to buy mu ammo from the local gun shop; which is not often because I reload all my ammo!

Nope. They had to call someone for a "customer in sporting goods". The gal that showed up was knowledgeable about ammo and HAD the key! . Of course this was a WM in a more rural area of the Shenandoah Valley.

Maybe if the new administration lets W*M import ammo from China again they’ll have a good supply. It would go well with about 80% of the other stuff in the store!

Retail stores don't like to have empty shelves because you can't sell nothing.

The Cabelas in Reno used to have a couple isles of ammo shelves. Then the covid ammo crisis hit, and the shelves were emptied.

The place looked like it had been looted.

A couple weeks I ago I went back and they had removed all the ammo shelves and put other items there. No ammo at all. Not a round.

Can't blame them.

It wasn't all that long ago that folks hated WM for taking business from the "Mom and Pop" stores, by selling low priced guns and ammo.

Now everyone is going BMW (Complain, Moan, Whine) because WM is not selling cheap guns and ammo.

I am so thankful that I don't have to deal with the public...

I haven't bothered looking in a Vegas Walmart for ammo in several years. The shelves looked exactly like that back then, too. Quite honestly I don't think Walmart have any interest in selling it any more.

Ten years ago the Walmart's around here had a great selection of rifles and shotguns including AR's. These days they have nothing at all as far as guns or ammo. A couple of years ago they had some shot gun,22 and hunting rifle type ammo but not anymore. I would be surprised if they ever stock guns or ammo again even after the shortage ends. Not that long ago they sold reloading supplies but nothing close to that these days.

Rolled my cart past the Walmart Sporting Goods with low expectations.
Less room for disappointment that way.
410, 12GA, 28 GA , a little centerfire Rifle, and OMG!
CCI MiniMags! Got 2 boxes of 36 Grain Varmint.
Didn’t really ‘need’ it.
But when I see ammo that I shoot at the regular price, I buy!
And I do pass ammo to my Son and SIL.
Paid $16.87 out the door.

Yours too, huh? Ours has a Police car ( with Cop in it) parked right on sidewalk near the doors, all hours they are open.

Walmart bailed on the pistol and scary rifle ammo a couple of years ago. I went to six different Walmarts and loaded up cheap. An example is a lot of white box nines for less than $6.00 for 50. I loaded up on a lot of other calibers that I shoot also. None is for sale. I prefer new ammo to old, except for some revolver stuff. A good friend passed away and left me pretty much a lifetime supply of reloads. I'm not a hoarder or prepper, but I do have enough now to probably let me target shoot until I'm too old to do it any more. (I'm 73) The stuff I bought when Wally went stupid keeps me on the range. I still buy a little to replace my range ammo even though it mostly costs three times more.

Sales clerk told me that WM is phasing out Ammo sales. There’s no more handgun ammo, but I’ve seen some hunting caliber ammo, shotgun ammo and sporadic .22lr.

I’ve bought a few boxes of .270 Win from Remington (nice to see that back in stock) and Federal 7mm Rem Mag, just because they had it and it was relatively cheap. I reload, so don’t have a “need” for factory stuff, except to have a SHTF supply.

This said, I’m very rarely in WM. The place depresses me, and reminds me of how our country has turned to ****, including companies caving to anti-gun organizations. I also don’t enjoy seeing tattoo’d, toothless, degenerates smacking their 4 year olds.
