high-point police weapons?

A fellow officer, now deceased, started his law enforcement career in a tiny Alabama town. When he was hired, the chief asked if Gary had a uniform. He didn't. The chief then asked if he had a handgun. Again, he didn't. The chief found a uniform shirt, which Gary wore with his blue jeans. He was also issued a shotgun and assigned to night shift, where he carried the shotgun over his shoulder and walked around town, shaking door knobs.

I've been associated with small LE agencies for a long time, and I've never seen one with HP weapons. I challenge anyone who says they've seen them to cite an instance where a LE agency toted HPs. I've seen when officers brought their own, but never a HP. I am/was a firearms instructor as well. Hi Points didn't exist except fairly recently.

We probably should distinguish between as a side arm or long-arm.

I interestingly read this article some time ago by Roy Huntington, a long-time member of the POLICE Advisory Board, a former editor of POLICE, and then Editor of American Handgunner magazine, so I tend to believe every word. He states and I quote,

It seems some 60-odd actual police agencies have already adopted the Hi-Point Carbine for a duty rifle and more are following suit. I saw the list and Hi-Point will supply you their names and phone numbers if you want to check on how the guns are doing for yourself.

Hi-Point Firearms Model 995 Carbine - Weapons - POLICE Magazine

The reason I researched them is a neighboring rancher had bought one of these carbines. He and his boys and stuffed it in some netting on the front rack of a big swamp-running ATV. They were headed back from hunting one evening after dark and the carbine and netting rattled lose.

When they got back to their shop under the lights they saw the netting lose and the gun “gone.” Then they noticed the netting had run up under the ATV. They get a flash light and low and behold the carbine was tangled in the netting and had been dragged back through the swamp under the ATV!

Copious beer had been consumed on the return trip and one of the sons simply blew the mud out of the trigger guard and started firing it. It fired without a hitch.

The whole family carries them now as truck, tractor and ATV guns.

.....But how could there be a pride of ownership with a H-P?.....

For the criminal gangs in San Jose, a gun and a car are status symbols. There is status in a Beretta and a BMW. There is no status in a Hi Point and a Ford Pinto.

C'mon guys!

This is just the new 'modern policing' in action!

Visualize this:
Local copper is taking down an armed felon, they both draw their guns at the same time, the felon can't shoot because he is laughing so hard - no shots fired -> A Win-Win for the good guys! And, we didn't have to call in the social workers.

On the other hand, if that is all you can afford, then run what ya brung :D

Seriously, they are likely evidence, surrender, or used as training props.
