As background: I haven't been able to use iron sights effectively since I had cataract surgery. No matter what I do I have to choose between seeing the front sight clearly or the target. I can't see both clearly. Hence, the red dot.

So...I bought a Vortex Venom and an Outerimpact mount. The mount went on just fine - no "fitting" needed, just red Loctite and 25 in/lbs on the dovetail screws.

The problem is Outerimpact says to use red Loctite on the Venom mounting screws. I'm reluctant to do so as that's essentially meant to be permanent. Vortex apparently offers no installation instructions at all - neither in the package nor on their website - which I find rather problematic.

Any suggestions?

You can use the red for the bse mount but to remover you will use some heat on the are to soften the bond to remove easily but I use blue on the optis . So you now have No back up sights ? so no outers for me unless used only as a fun " learning " gun .

I can't shoot nice tight groups for some years but thats not what defensive shooting as about . I can see my sights and target by wearing trifocals with my middle lens set for my front sight distance but practice in a older defensive style - Flash Sight Picture shooting style and my focus is target or threat focused but I can "see" that my front sight is well centered in my peripheral vision and can control a number bullet impacts rather well at 15 yards while moving between targets and keep hits in the A zone of a uspsa target out to 25 yards at a slower pace . I mostly shoot at smaller AR500 steel .

You could have your slide milled for a brand optic or perhaps look into buying a different optic ready model with tall sights ether sell yours or keep for a family member with good eye sight !! .

We have a few optic ready handguns from a m&p core to a revolver I've hunted with for close to 40 years but I also have a m&p compact 2.0 but its an optic ready model sku: 13144 with tall sights and other up grades including a holosun 507C-gr x2 using the circle only for carry needs . This pistol has 7 optic adaptor plates to cover any brand out there too . I have a venom and I'm not a fan of it on a defensive pistol . You can more than likely find "instructions " on you tube for that outers adaptor .

My EDC is still a naked lw commander with a Thin .10 wide front sight helps me to see my target . That thin front sight might help you too .

Well, I looked briefly at Outer Impact's online video. They showed 243 and 270.

Loctite 243 medium strength and is blue despite coming in a red bottle.

Loctite 270 is high strength and is green despite being in a red bottle.

I would use the 243. Make sure you torque the screws properly.

Yes, that's correct. I'll have no backup irons which I can't see anyway without glasses. I don't wear glasses normally - I just need reading glasses. In a self-defense situation it's unlikely, imo, that I'll have my glasses on. It's just a risk I feel is a reasonable trade-off to make. YMMV.

These are possibilities but I just cant' swing it right now. The M&P 2.0 Compact is available in an optics ready model now. It was not when I purchased mine.

I do appreciate the suggestions. Thank you. My son has some green Weaver branded thread locker I think I'll use for the optic mounting. We'll see how that goes tomorrow. I'm not messing with it tonight.

Thank you once again.

I feel kinda dumb for not having watched the video(s). The proper torque is really the problem, aside from what type thread locker is recommended. Vortec should be telling me the optic mounting torque and not Outer Impact.

As I said in my previous post I'm going to use Weaver branded green thread locker. It says, "Easily remove with basic hand tools." Let's hope they're right. lol

I appreciate the help. Thank you.

ps: I guess I could have just contacted Vortec. I don't know why I didn't think of that.

Okay, so now I really feel like an idiot. I just went to Vortex's web site and looked at their "parts diagram" document for this optic. It actually says, "Tighten to 12 in lbs with loctite or 15 in lbs dry."

Why that's in the parts diagram and not the instruction manual I will never know. It still doesn't recommend a particular grade of loctite.

I used blue loc-tite on my Outer impact mount and on my Holosun 407c gr. No issues, and no reason to take anything apart either.

It seems I feel dumber every day. The "green" Weaver branded loctite is blue. I should stop making assumptions like that (because of the color of the bottle).

It's assembled. I just need to boresight it and finish sighting it in.
