Don't know why but I want to see some very large knives, Bowie Knives with over 10" long blades. I know you folks have some to show me. Over the years, I have seen pictures of some nice Randall's, but they aren't the only makers of nice knives. I just looked at their online catalog at some of their Bowie's: Smithsonian, Confederate, and Raymond Thorp knives. Please show us some large Bowie knives even if you made them yourself.

I got rid of my large sheath knives as I never found them practical or very useful to carry, sharpen and use for much. I did keep my Dad's vintage WWll Machete that I still use on occasion - buy have never carried it further than my property.

Bowie knives are great looking presentation pieces and possibly good for deep woods survival, but for practical hunting, camping, around the neighborhood and workshop they have never been practical for me. I did have a few that I recently sold - don't think I ever used them.

Another Hibben. Edit to add: as the poster above me noted, they aren't that practical. A friend of mine's into knives and I was getting him one for a birthday and figured what the heck and clicked twice! Maybe someday a drunk will try coming through my door and I can scare him sober with it.

I don’t have any practical use for a Bowie, but they do have a certain manly appeal. If I need to split wood or make kindling, I’ll use a hatchet or camp axe. IMO, Batoning is what the police should do to rioters. It’s not something that should be done to a quality knife!

Having said that, I’ve managed to accumulate a few Bowie’s. Some of the blades are just shy of 10”, but I round up fractions! ;)

This Randall Little Sasquatch Bowie with a JRB sheath only has an 8” blade, but I couldn’t leave it out! Pardon…

Not exactly a Bowie cause it doesn’t have a hilt but I just finished making this one.

I have found little to no use for large knives.
That being said, I’ve always liked them.
Head on down to your local feed and seed and get you a machete.
Use it for yard work.
Maybe that’ll scratch the itch.

Wasn't Gil Hibben a knife designer for the Rambo movies? I may have him confused with Jimmy Lile.

Most of mine are Randalls though.

The one you showed is really nice. I bet it is heavy! Please show us some more of your Randall's.

Nice Bowie's ALL! Keep them coming!:)

Old timer told me to have a big knife when going into the woods. They are not for normal everyday use when everything is going well. They are for the one time when things go very bad.
I wound up face down, chin deep, head downhill into a frozen creek I was trying to cross country ski across. The pup and I would go out skiing or snowshoeing for 4 hours sometimes so it would be a few hours before I was missed. I was so tangled up in bindings and straps, with my Labrador trying to help, I figured I was going to drown eventually. I had my k-bar on my right calf outside my gaiter and could just reach it and cut a few straps so I could get out of the water.
I believe in having a big knife in the woods.
