What is a good set of screwdrivers for S&W revolvers?

That's where I also bought my set of Grace screwdrivers back in 1963. They're excellent screwdrivers especially for the DIYer and affordable besides. Thanks for your post.
Not something I would advise doing, but a couple of times I've clamped a pair of vice grips to the shaft of my screwdriver to get out a stubborn screw. The Grace screwdrivers with the square shanks made it easy to do.

Me too. I use a mini crescent wrench. I also like the comfortable feel of the wooden handles. I don't gun smith a lot so the Grace set is perfect for my purposes.

Mdl 640 side plates three (3) screws

I've tried Cabella's, Brownell's, Amazon etc and have to resort to the common itty-bitty driver because not one set has the one which fits the side plate screws on my 640 rev or the K frames
If anyone can point me int he right direction, i'd appreciate it.

Got a brownell's super set for doing a trigger job on Reid Coffield's M1A at the national matches in '92 or '93...that was really kind of him...I did have the same set that was issued to me but had to turn it in when I got out of service...was a rifle team armourer for the Marine team out of WTBN, Quantico...still have the set in my Kennedy box and it brings back great memories-fantastic tools!

Old thread, but what the heck. You only need three (or 4) bits for a S&W revolver most of the time. I do recommend having the combo tool for R&R of the trigger rebound. It will save a lot of frustration.

I bought a set from Grace.
Decent quality and price.
(I prefer wood handles.)
Last I knew they are made in USA, from USA materials, by USA workers. That alone should help tip the scale.

I like Brownells Mag Tips, but a few points:
#1. There are other brands of tips , made in USA that are same quality.
Brownells doesn’t make them.
#2. The brands that seem to be real popular are mostly junk. Check close
and you will find China in fine print. That’s enough for me but I’ve
never seen a Chinese tool worth carrying home, including a hammer.
#3. Sets, I’m not much on sets regardless of manf or tool. Half the set you
never use. I buy the bits and taps I use in units.
#4. Sets like Grace, Forrester, ect are decent tools but only fit limited
number of screws. They don’t have enough range.
#5. If you are going to be doing most of your tinkering with certain guns
buy the appropriate tools. It will save you in the long run. You can
very easy get into the cost of a screw driver buying one gun screw
with shipping & handling.

I turn wrenches (and screwdrivers) for a living. Klein screwdrivers fit S&W and last a lifetime or two.

I agree that buying USA is great and I am a 100% supporter of this trend. I find, however, that some of the good ol USA COMPANIES are 'outsourcing' their work to the China--because it is cheaper. In some instances, the quality may be there -- but you are going to pay a premium price (so why buy from China?). I would MUCH RATHER pay the premium and BUY USA -- it keeps business in the USA.

I have owned the 89 piece Wheeler Engineering set described above for probably 15 years and have been very satisfied with it for the money spent.

I have owned the Brownells set for over thirty years, wore out one box and got another, have broken several bits thru the years, but Brownells always replaced them. I also bought a three bit set for S&W that Brownells sells and keep them in my travel box when hunting.
