Another new M&P product--M&P FPC

At last a PCC that uses M&P magazines. S&W is taking quite a risk ignoring not being able to Glock magazines. I have read that S&W has produced more than one million M&P handguns so maybe it isn’t much of a risk after all.

I can’t say I care for the folding feature but the carry case is a nice accessory. I also have several unused backpacks. Storing a pistol and the carbine together along with a bunch of loaded magazines makes for interesting possibilities. I am thrilled to the idea of a carbine that uses M&P magazines. I am looking forward to seeing one and will most likely be getting it.

I'm probably going to blasted for this.. but that is the ugliest gun on the market. I wanted a S&W PCC that uses M&P magazines but not this. I'll opt for the Henry Homesteader instead.

Its looks give me no heartburn. I am just glad that they came out with one. Not quite what I had imagined but, hey, if it works. I think I will hold off until there are some more reviews. Not sure I like the spare mag holder. You shouldn't have to press a button or lift a lever to do a mag change. It should be grab and go. I hope they do other calibers. Would love a 45acp

Having a small, 5lb folding carbine does seem to have some utility and 9mm ammo is about the cheapest centerfire ammo you can find even though it doesn't have much power for a rifle. I'm not crazy about the bulky double mag holder and I prefer my Rossi M92 .357 Mag for a pistol caliber carbine but this new S&W might be fun.

Man that's a long video, I've only watched about half of it because I've got to go somewhere.

I'm guessing it's striker fired, and I'd be interested in how headspace is achieved since the barrel folds away from the bolt.

All will be made clear with time, I guess.

Not sure why hammer vs striker makes a difference in a weapon like this. Sootch00 on youtube does a field strip and the bolt looks to have a hollow for an internal hammer.

9MM out of a 16” rifle has nearly the ballistic capability of a .357 Magnum out of a 6” barrel revolver. Nobody here would sneeze at that. People have hunted deer and killed bear with .357 Magnum. Low recoil fast follow up shots with a 23 round mag? Yes, please!

Well, so much for getting that P320/M&P conversion from Stern Defense, but I’d still like to have a long gun or conversion in 40S&W that would take my M&P mags.

If it had a Glock mag option, I would probably bite on one. I don't own any M&P pistols, and I have a ton of Glock mags, big and small, so I will be taking my money and giving it to Ruger for a PC Charger. Besides, I have several PCC's, a SUB2000 in Beretta 92 mags, and a Freedom Ordinance FX-9 that takes Glock mags. Any PCC should have a Glock mag option available. If I was buying the SUB2000 today, I would get the Glock mag model, but back then, I got the Beretta one because I had (still do) have a lot of Beretta mags.

I like that it folds to the side, rather than end over end like the KelTec SUB 2000. It allows for the mounting of an optic, unlike the KelTec, which cant fold all the way with one mounted.

Is the new S&W blowback? I would think they would use the same locked breach system as the M&P pistol?

Well, one can always carry extra magazines WHERE EVER and reload as fast as they are able...

But having a built-in place to store a couple isn't a bad idea, either.

The design using the Compact-sized magazines is, IMHO, a good one as well.

If it does comes out in 10mm I would be extremely tempted: might even have get an M&P 10 to go with it...?

Cheers!

P.S. Both my PC9 (and SUB2000s) are available with GLOCK magazine functionality: my SUB2000 uses M&P FS magazines like my M&P 40 pistols... Works for me.

One just needs to remember to carry the appropriate caliber pistol (be it a GLOCK 9mm or 40 S&W) with the appropriate caliber PCC.

Glad you all like it. I see absolutely no value or interest. To each their own.

Fortunately we can all buy what we want and is legal.

My main reasons for wanting a PCC are I shoot long guns better than handguns and I can shoot a 9mm PCC at steel plates in the pistol bays. The gun club I shoot at does not allow rifle cartridges to be shot at steel closer than 100 yards since they crater the plates and cratered plates send lead fragments back towards the shooter.

Waiting to see if this gun proves itself to be reliable before I buy one but its on my list. Also hoping they come out with a variant that has a stock with adjustable pull length, a more conventional handguard or something a little less ugly. But if it is reliable I am not going to wait for a variant that will likely never show up.

Blowback. The locked breach system requires a floating barrel that moves back with the slide for a short distance which is not compatible with a fixed barrel carbine.

Even if they did try to make a PCC that was a pistol with a 16 inch barrel and stock I am guessing the barrel would weigh so much it wouldn't work well. But it would be cool if it did. My ideal PCC would be an M&P 2.0 with a 5 to 6 inch barrel, red dot sight, place to put my support hand and a stock but unfortunately would be a class 3 firearm.
