I and a friend still use these dinosaurs. A friend ask me if they still made them. I told him none that I can find new. My question is when did they stop making these?

Can't answer the question but I can tell you where a like new one is sitting in a pawn shop. PM me if interesting and I'll share the info.

Thanks, but can't use more than one. To me they are useful, but heavy. I take mine to the range once a week. I use a folding luggage cart to get it from the car to the shooting bench.

I've got an old Bianchi range box, but don't use it.

I had a nice Strong Case box, but sold it. Too darn heavy! I switched to a soft side tool bag and pistol rugs long ago.

Canatek and Hyskore still make range/bullseye boxes. They'll set you back $500 and $300 respectively.

I have picked up four or five from the local gun shop. They get estates in and once in a while a gun box comes in. After sitting on the shelf a while I sometimes offer $50 for a nice one. I sold one this morning for what I had in it to a friend that shoots with us. That is what started the conversation about how old they were. I can not imagine paying those prices for a new pistol case!

The Super Deluxe cases are still listed in the 1987 Pachmayr catalog. You can see by my avatar pic that I still use one I bought new in 1982.

Mine says "Gun Ho" for brand but it looks the same as the Pachmayr in the original post. I seldom use mine anymore and recently had it for sale on my table at a large gun show. Absolutely no interest; probably very few attendees even knew what it was. $50.00 would probably be a good price for one.

These old bullseye boxes bring good money on ebay. Do some research before dumping it...

My friend has one that his wife bought for him. He uses it evey handgun day at the range,

I have looked there before. Offered at $200.00 and up, but do not see them selling.

You can overprice one at $200.00 but it won't bring anywhere close to that. Virtually no one uses them these days. I've belonged to a private gun club many years. In that time, I've seen exactly one shooter using a pistol box; an old Bullseye guy in his eighties and that was about ten years ago.

The problem I've found with my 4-gun box is that it holds relatively few of the items you need for a day at the range. I still had to take my Kennedy tool box with any tools and equipment I might need as well as targets, stapler, hearing protection, cleaning equipment, etc. The pistol box will hold four handguns, ammo, a spotting scope, a few magazines, and little else.

Maybe I just travel with too much junk.

They weigh 17 pounds but would cost $$ to ship.

You may be right, but there is the matter of convenience when selling something bulky and heavy that involves packaging and shipping, especially for the amount of money we're talking about here. More trouble than it would be worth for me.

Ok, you hurt my feelings, but I am an old bullseye shooter so there’s that. 😁
Use mine every week during our season.
Most of the shooters on our team have one of some make, some are home made.

The old style bullseye boxes like these are great! Once you open them up, you can see everything you've got. Very easy to keep them organized. Being able to mount a spotting scope is nice, too.
The problem with soft padded bags is, you need two hands to pull them open and a third hand to dig around the bottom until whatever you're looking for emerges from the dark corners.
(Kinda reminds me of women who have those big sack purses).
A good option is to use the box for stuff you need regularly while on the firing line, while a soft bag is OK for a few bulky things like a staple gun, hearing protection, bench mat, etc.

I built mine from a set of plans that were in an old gun magazine. Can you imagine them doing that today? Back then, gun magazines published useful articles and weren't just shills for their advertisers. The factory made cases were always an expensive item. Building one was important for me, at least back then.

To answer AJ's question, I remember the Pachmayr case was discontinued perhaps in the 1980s, and that the Gung-Ho case lasted until 2000 or so. But, I also remember that supplies of both kept trickling forth on and off. Gil Hebard offered one or the other pretty much until he passed away.

Maybe you do have to take to much stuff. Mine is a three gun case. Usually I try to keep all pistols/revolvers the same caliber to simplify the ammo required. I carry a small box of tools, hearing protection (custom made ear plugs), something to pad the shooting bench to cushion the guns, spotting scope, targets, cleaning gear and rods, masking tape, magazines and chamber flags. Box probably weighs 35 pounds full. Staplers and stuff are supplied by our range. I like the convenience of just carrying one box. The weight is off-set by using a folding luggage cart.
