Smith & Wesson Fixed Blade Set Questions

I came across a nice display of Smith & Wesson knives that is for sale. It is in a nice wooden display case with a glass top. It has the following marked knives; Skinner, Outdoorsman, Survival, Bowie, Fillet, Fisherman. Also has a folding knife along with a Smith & Wesson Belt buckle. Please see the picture and share any information that you have about this set. Is it collectible? Any idea of the number of sets made?

Collectible? I would imagine I'd collect THAT one, depending on the $$$$. Sure is nice. I would think if you have the disposable cash, I might grab it if I were you. Trouble is, all those cool knives and you can only look at them. I doubt you really want to use them for anything. Is that a sales display or something, like Case had everywhere?

S&W made a five knife and a seven knife display sales case. Those are Blackie Collins knives and are collectable. That display case should be for all standard knifes. The three engraved knives are certainly an upgrade and typically sale for at least twice the standard models. To be complete, each knife had a box and sheath which could be stored under the display deck. Standard knifes as NIB with sheath start at $125 to $150 and go to about $250. Engraved knives that are complete and NIB start at $250 or so.

Depends on where that were made, not who designed them. If they are China like a lot of Smith's stuff, to me the value is zero.

I do not knowingly buy any knife ( with very limited exception ) that is not made in the US of A

It is a personal thing. Shoes too

Those were dealer display cases and are very collectable, of course. I've seen them sell in the yrs past in the $1,000 plus range. Ed

I think $1200 is fair . Not a steal but fair for both parties. See if you get get him down to $1100. I would buy it for that price

~ $1200 is fair, though the 3 etched knives are not the Collector Series knives. From the book "The Knives of Smith & Wesson" by Clarence Rinke, the elephant scene etched blade Outdoorsman was done by Aurum Etching with 100 blades made.

All were made in the U.S.A.

Those are mid 1970's S&W knives. Made in the USA by S&W ; I believe under Blackie Collin's supervision. I have a Skinner with it's box; a gift from my wife when they were new and about $50.00.

Like lots of things, they got away!
Still have the Folder.

Each knife came with a leather sheath.
