Laugo Arms "Alien-Creator Editions" are Out

There was a time when a high quality handgun cost a month's pay by the average man. We've been spoiled by modern manufacturing processes that can churn out a pretty darn good gun for $400, which isn't even a week's pay for the average American.

But yes, I'm with most of the posters here that would rather have a RM, pre-29, or TL Target for the same money...such is life...

People buy these to shoot in competition though. It’s apples and oranges.

I disagree you can get a pretty darn good gun for $400. You can get a reliable service grade gun made of plastic, sure, or a bargain basement 1911. Those are in a different stratosphere than is the Alien.

If you would rather spend $7000 on a collectible, I get it. I own dozens like that. However, if you want one of the best shooting handguns on the planet, the Alien Creator is money well spent.

I think you're hunting for disagreement --- I do not disagree with you that the Alien is an excellent pistol, and the fact that there are loads of very reliable and accurate pistols in the $400 range does not detract from the Alien in any way. Competition guns have always been about diminishing returns that are only realized by a small number of shooters. Very few gun owners can outshoot their firearms, particularly under the stress of a timer...or someone shooting back.

A Ferrari and a Hyundai, leaving at the same time and both moving at 55mph, get the exact same objective results re: reaching a shared destination. This does not make them equal in every respect.

Tastes in guns vary a lot. A most unattractive pistol, but I'll bet it shoots quite accurately.

Definitely a gun for shooting, not for looking at.

Everything about the gun is designed to help the shooter shoot fast and accurately.

It's above my pay grade though.

They are different in appearance. I wasn't paying much attention when they first hit the scene but have since watched a few reviews and looked into a bit more. They are an outstanding gun. Not for everyone. But I definitely can see the appeal. I think they look awesome. To those that got one, congratulations on a fine acquisition!

Here is a brief history of Laugo Arms and how they view their place in the firearms industry.

Laugo Arms Czechoslovakia

Laugo Arms Czechoslovakia is modern day, premium firearms manufacturer based on dedicated professionals who had the vision to change the firearms industry. We were not satisfied with production of the same designs over and over again just because it safely makes money. We wanted to think out of box with no boundaries, use the best todays approaches, technologies and materials and bring the future to shooters. This was not possible in big corporates, that is why we enterprised Laugo Arms Czechoslovakia. To make the best firearms in the world.

Our story starts in 2001 when in Trenčín (Roman: Laugaricio) group of passionate designers around Ján Lučanský, the chief designer, and Frank Gašparík founded independent design bureau. After the success with M8A SMG Laugo was closely cooperating with CZ factory to adopt M8A into mass production as CZ Scorpion EVO 3. However the world of mass production of obsolete designs was very limiting and not satisfying at all. Therefore in 2013, Laugo ceased its cooperation with CZ.

Start of independent production.

In 2017 Laugo Arms Czechoslovakia s.r.o. Has moved its operations to Prague and become fully capable firearms manufacturing company. By than the original Laugo team has been joined by Daniel Selichar, investor and Ondřej Poděl former CZ marketing director with Ján Lučanský as chief designer. The aim of this move was to establish platform spirited to design and manufacture high end, revolutionary firearms designs. First of the Laugo Arms production models is the Alien pistol. But others are coming soon...

The Alien is definitely a niche pistol. It's price is going to put it out of reach of most gun buyers.

I applaud them for doing something different. The gun is innovative and seems to do what it's designers intended, which is help the shooter shoot fast, flat and accurate.

I would not be surprised if some of the gun become part of other manufacturers offerings down the road.

One thing I might add.

Through internet forums and some sales that I have been a part of, I only know 8 people who own Aliens counting myself.

Of those 8 shooters, 6 of them own more than one Alien and two of those own more than two. As for the other two owners, by now they might also have more than one as I have no contact with them anymore.

That should say something about the Laugo Alien's quality and workmanship.

Sure that’s certainly fair

The Alien is designed to be a top notch competition pistol and in that realm it’s price is comparable to its competitors.

Workmanship among current production guns is the top of the heap with very few equals, in my opinion. Possibly the only guns I’d put above the Alien in that regard are the steel Phoenix pistols from Switzerland, just as the Redback and Drake.
