Local shop has this well used but intriguing .38 Special. Appears to be N frame, script on the gun looks older, and no model number. They don’t seem to know what it is other than a “S&W .38”.

What an I looking at?

Yes, a 4” postwar HD. If you can provide the serial number we can probably give its age fairly precisely.

My old S&W knowledge is dusty. Where’s the serial?

What’s a decent price? They’re asking $400.

The SN will begin with the letter S followed by five or six digits, perhaps as low as 80000 and up into the 160000 range or higher.

It is a good buy at $400 if mechanically sound. Plan on a few extra dollars to bring it back to factory original-ish appearance.

I’m not a wheel gun aficionado enough. Tempting because it’s neat and I like old stuff but we already have several more powerful K frames and N frames.

More of a flip thing for me. What’s the value of something like this?

Mr. Blazer, worth more than a biddley $400! Heck, $400 is a Sat. night dinner and bar bill. Im betting the grips number to the gun and finish is
original and not re-done. It is a fun gun to clean up and do some research on. Just go buy the gun and keep in touch.

Value is going to depend. I would personally give 5 bills for it in a heartbeat. I would also research the finish on it. Factory nickel would add some value.

Serial number should also be under the ejector, and maybe in the barrel lug as well.

Thanks James. If I lived closer to KY, I would drive and buy it. I hope we got thru to Blazer. That gun was hand fitted. Heck buy it and post it here and make a profit.
