22 short vs air rifle

I still use and enjoy the 22 Short ... even the 22 CB Cap .

There is a place for them ... I Like Them and buy them when I can .

I realy enjoy shooting them in my revolvers ...
Fun with the kids and a great way to introduce new shooters to the sport with no recoil and little noise .

I'm not putting a can on my revolver when I have a box of shorts or CB Caps !

No need for a suppressor on a rifle using .22 Short SV. I usually don’t use ear protection when firing my H-S Olympic pistol.

Even a gun that is chambered for LR will shoot CB shorts when you want to do something furtively.

My revolvers shoot shorts. They are quiet. I would be mad if I couldn't get them any more.

I have a Walther OSP in .22 Short. It is a hoot to shoot. I have an air rifle and pistol, both are fun to shoot.

A friend has a .22, 9MM and .50 cal rifles. All are filled from a divers aqualung. Anything that is properly hit with those is going down. The .50 makes a heck of a hole!

I have enjoyed both air guns and firearms all my life. The newer air guns are impressive but do require clunky compressed air tanks to keep them running. I’ve got a Marln 39a Mountie. It will hold 20 rounds of shorts in the tubular magazine. Instead of a clunky air tank, I just grab a couple small 100 round boxes of 22 shorts.

I see that OP is in Italy, but here in the states there are millions of guns laying around chambered in .22 short. And even more 22lr chambered bolt rifles, break actions, revolvers etc. that will also chamber the short. In that respect, The 22 short may be the most versatile cartridge available to us here.

No reason we can't have both. I do. Just for fun.

100%. I've got 3 Air Arms (British made) air rifles, 2 pneumatic and one spring piston, all suppressed, in .22 and .25. Since I live in a suburban setting, they're all I can use for dispatching pests, and they're as deadly as they are dead quiet. They live quite amicably next to my powder burners.

Use the .22 Short to shoot whoever you are with in the knee and run! Hopefully it will slow them down so that the bear catches them. 🏃‍♂️👍
I liked your post ... but I wanted to Love It !

Awesome answer AJ ... made me laugh !

While many air guns can match the performance of .22 short, they don’t fit in the palm of your hand quite like a Beretta 950.

That is true. However, in my case the Deputy Sheriff that lives next door would probably take umbrage to me discharging a firearm within the city limits...........

the perfect compromise.. lol

I have room for both in my world.. old pump or lever 22 rifle full of shorts is a hoot...

Years ago, when I hunted small game as a teen and early 20-something I'd often use .22 Short HP's for squirrel and rabbit. From a rifle, much less noise than a LR and VERY effective.

Also, working in a LGS in the 70's when small game hunting was more popular, sold quite a few Browning .22 Autos that were chambered in .22 Short ONLY. That, along with a cute little Redfield 3/4" 4x scope made a fine small game package for many.
