This "pre model 10" has been languishing on my favorite statewide classified site for over a year, for sale or trade for silver, which is what caught my attention.
After a few PMs and a 45 min drive, I ended up snagging it for 12 ounces.
It's an early "C" serial number (5 digits), that seems to date to 1948.
Lock up is solid, bore is clean and crisp, flame cutting is nothing more than superficial discoloration, so it appears to be very low miles.
Matching numbers on the grip, barrel, cylinder, and frame.
I never much liked the long 6" pencil barrels, but I'm really happy with this thing. It's much lighter and handier than I expected.
I've only had it a few days, I need to get off my duff and go pop a few off. Maybe this afternoon.

Nice score! I just bought her sister this week! Mine is an S prefix and am told it is a '47 model. Mine looks like it is brand new. Doing the conversion for silver, we both paid the same. Like you, I'm not a fan of 6" guns, but this one is an exception. I'll post pics of mine soon.

Nice revolver and "interesting" exchange rate.
I'm in the dark as to the current exchange rate in $$ for silver.
Care to elaborate?

Some of the silver I bought back during the 08-09 crisis, and a few were generic rounds I was given back in the 80s. I offered a $34 valuation, which is the high end of where it's been hovering lately ($31-$34+). That worked out to $408, I believe, but my actual out-of-pocket cost was under $100.
