My father was also not a fan of the carbine. He was a Lt (FO/Reconnaissance Officer) with an infantry (313th of the 79th) cannon company which had been hurriedly redeployed to counter an enemy offensive. During an attack they ended on the front line in the middle of the night (France, Jan 11, Winter 44/45 Part of the Battle of Reipertswiller and Operation Nordwind). What DWalt said. I can remember going into a MW store back in the early 60's and they had barrels of milsurp guns and ammo. I really wanted an M1 carbine but my dad, a WWII vet, sneered at them and said they weren't much of a gun. Audi Murphy movies made me want one of those M1's soooo bad.
Firearms were thought of differently prior to 1968.What DWalt said. I can remember going into a MW store back in the early 60's and they had barrels of milsurp guns and ammo. Same thing about 1911A1 pistols. Veterans either loved them or they hated them. My Dad would argue with his brothers about the proper sidearm. My father was also not a fan of the carbine.
