Does anyone know if S&W made the 586 in 8” nickel. The Blue Book of Gun Values reports that they were made but I can’t find one. Has anyone ever seen one? Thanks….

If they did, very few done in nickel plate. I have not seen an 8 3/8" Model 586 in anything but blue. I've seen 4 and 6 inch nickel plated 586's. I have not seen any 2 1/2" nickel plated 586's either.

Thanks guys. How could I get the definitive word on this?

Chief38 is correct. Only S&W would know for certain and that is if they actually kept a record of if and how many 8 3/8" Model 586"s were nickel plated. You also have to get someone who is willing to put in the effort and knows how to find the requested information.

I too have never seen one, and I'm guessing the factory has no way to research if any were made without a lot of effort. The good news is that if one exists, a Forum member probably has it and will post a photo. :)

The title of the thread caught my attention because I`ve never seen an 8 3/8" in nickel... My guess is the 8 3/8" are like the 2 1/2" and 3" 586`s in that they were low enough production to begin with that they never bothered to make them in anything but blue.

I've never seen an 8 3/8" 586 in nickel. I've owned a couple of 4" and at least one 6", my first "L" frame, but never seen an 8 3/8" nickel.

Just received the definitive word from S&W today. NO
It is odd, because nickel guns and 8” barrels for the 586 were available roughly around the same time period. One would think that at least some were made in that configuration.
