Well, it certainly seems like 3.5" 27's are all the rage right now. Like everyone else, I had been on the hunt for one. A dealer buddy finally got one in. It may not be a pinned and recessed 5 screw, but it scratches the itch.

Anybody know much about these? I read that they may have only made 750 of them.

I don’t know the answer, but that is an incredibly good looking gun. WOW

Edit- so I had to check this out in my 5th edition SCSW. Page 276 indicates a reintroduction of the 3.5” and 5” barrels in 1991. Product code for the 3.5” was 100998. Production run of 1500 but it doesn’t specify the breakdown of 3.5” to 5”.

I am happy to have it. Took a couple months to find the right 3.5" 27 at the right price.

Thanks for finding that. I looked in the 5th edition but must have missed that part. I suppose if they made an even amount of 5" and 3.5", then maybe 750 is accurate.

Gun arrived today, no unpleasant surprises. Took some glamour shots when the sun was right.

The book references a colored advertisement sheet from when Smith did this run in 1991. I have not been able to find a copy or photo of it anywhere. If someone has one lying around, I'd sure love to see it, and would definitely buy it if they were willing to sell.

I got this one from member "Cigardad" back over 20 years ago. One of the "lesser" of his collection became the "tops" of mine. Win-win. Joe
Awesome gun. I really like the look of these 3.5 guns with the magna sized stocks. It seems a little more proportionally correct in my opinion. I have not seen many N frame smooth magna grips around, they look excellent your gun.

This 27-5 had rubber grips on it when my dealer got ahold of it. I knew he had a killer set of era correct speedloader cut N frame targets sitting around, because I had previously tried to buy them off of him for my 29. At the time he wasn't willing to sell them, but I managed to twist his arm into working them into this deal.

The gun came with "speedloader cutout" target stocks. I don't know where I got the black washer smooth magnas but they are more suited to the gun than targets. Joe

Great looking revolver.
I looked in the 1990 and 1991 handgun catalogs and didn’t see anything about the 3-1/2”. I’m missing the 1992. Picture below from both catalogs shows 4” but not a 3-1/2”. It must have been a single flyer promoting it.

I looked at what the SWCA had on file for digitized catalogs for every year even remotely close to 1991, and can't find anything. I too think it must have been a single page flyer. Went as far as checking current ebay and gunbroker listings for a copy or reprint and still can't find the advertisement the book talks about. Will probably make a post about it in the want-to-buy section on here pretty soon.
