Looking to value N Frame 38sp

Morning, I have an opportunity to pick this up. Based on the great info found on this site I think I may have the ID on this one correctly. Let me know if I'm wrong. S# S74*** Post war N frame 38 sp. Pretty nice condition. Timing and lockup are fine. I wonder what a fair offer price would be for this? Thanks in advance for the info.

Yeah man, if you can shoot N-frames comfortably. For me they don’t play well. My hands are more suited for K and L frames. I can shoot N frames good, but not great.

Thanks for the info, that's great. Do you have an opinion on a fair price? Now that I have the correct name, I'll start searching online for recent sales.

Update, First thanks to everyone who shared their knowledge and pictures. I was able to buy this for $700. After a good cleaning what I found is that the grips are sn# matching. There is a sn# on the cylinder, where the ejector rod sits, the side plate, the bottom and are all matching. There is slight scratching on the right of the cylinder, some wear at the end of the barrel, on the frame top and bottom of trigger guard. I think this was someone's service sidearm or EDC. The lighting on my pics seem to make the finish look more worn than it really is. It's not. I'm super happy to have picked this up. Now to find a period correct box and cleaning kit etc.

The model 28"s are big heavy guns. I have a 4" that shipped to the Pueblo, co police in 1952. It is one my ready house guns. Charge holes have NOT been reamed. As we get copper heads in the front garden from time to time, the first two rounds are 38 special shot shells

Nice purchase! So what type of ammo do you plan on shooting with?
Your own loads? Factory? Caliber? LRN or FMJ ?

You’ll find anything below .357 levels to be pretty sedate. I had a Model 28-3 once and .38 130 grains were mouse farts.
