22 Victory , Worth Buying?

Victory: best OOB experience. Yes, worth it. MKIVs can be great, but only after dumping another $150 plus into it. Brownings can be tweaked with the spring flip. My 2018 Victory is homely, but an excellent shooter.

I have found that the more I shoot the Victory the better it is and that includes the trigger. In some recent posts about 22s I have made clear my abhorrence to spending $150-200 on a pistol just purchased to get a good trigger.
I agree, why purchase a pistol and then add $$$ upgrades,my view is that it should be good right out of the box

I have had a 22 Victory for 5 or 6 years and LOVE IT. If you keep it reasonably clean, it runs great. The one and only time I had ejection issues was when it was very dirty.

Also, while the stock trigger is fine, Its easy to upgrade to a Tandemkross trigger and it becomes truly outstanding.

My Victory is reliable with various ammunition types. Its magazine capacity is outclassed by more modern pistols like Taurus TX22, but fortunately that wasn't an issue for me. I much prefer a proven reliability.

One thing I don't like is that the safety moves when I pull the trigger. The whole design is a little bit suspect, and unlucky grip can put the gun on safe inadvertently.

I don't know how our forefathers dealt with the traditional rimfire magazines. I very quickly gave up and printed a loader.

Regarding Buckmark, I think it's a very worthy platform with upscale aspirations that Victory does not harbor. But perversely enough, I prefer an unpretentious gun. It shoots just as well for me.

Another vote for the Browning which can be had in a multitude of configurations, including threaded if you think someday you might want to add a suppressor, which like might become easier/cheaper to obtain.
The Brownings are good pistols, hundreds of thousands been sold.

I have shot easily 10k+ through mine. Whenever I get something new to me I break it down and clean up, polish, and lube to my standards. So I don’t know how it would’ve ran out of the box but it has ran reasonably since day one.

To me reasonably means that it feeds and fires but has its limitations. If you run it suppressed or dirty you will only get so many rounds off before it’s not going into battery. At that point I can thumb it home or exercise some filth out to continue. I’ve gone 1k+ without cleaning/issues when not suppressed.

When I clean it now I don’t break it down. I leave the slide back, spray in my cleaner, paper towel with a pick, bore brush, and finish with a few drops of oil on the friction points. I don’t remove the Allen key bolt and do a full break down very often because it doesn’t seem necessary.

The weight, price, materials, build, sights, and accuracy are all positives for me. I couldn’t get a ruger in stainless for close to the same price.

The negatives I’ve experienced were 2 points. First one of the magazines had a bad weld, the seam was burnt through and the follower would catch on the booger inside. S&w sent me a replacement and I used a file to fix the bad one (so I have 3 now). Second would be ammo sensitivity, I have found one round that won’t run. The norma lead free with a raccoon on the box. This stuff is either too long or something, it hits the feed ramp and is done.

I would buy the victory 22 again without considering the competition if I was starting over with the experience I’ve had.
