I found this old war horse today, the last thing that I expected to run up on. Serial V 726743 for the record book. Super tight shape, finish is a nice black parkerization. It does have some curious markings on it, attached are the pics. Ran 6 through it, stacked em right where I pointed it.

Is it still in the original .38 S&W or has it been modified to .38 Special? Nice looking gun...Looks like UK regimental markings on backstrap.

Could be one of the Victories issued to the German civil police after the war but I do not recognize LcK 206. A late BSR, 1944. See if a .38 Special cartridge will chamber completely. BTW, Victories were hot oxide blued over a sandblasted (beadblasted) surface, not Parkerized. Is there a property stamp on the topstrap?

Schleswig-Holstein was in the British occupation zone after the end of WWII, so that makes sense. I know next to nothing about how the occupying powers after the war issued handguns to arm the local police throughout Germany and Austria. Or what the idea behind doing that was. Regardless, that marking does make your Victory much more interesting.

Some years ago there was an article in the American Rifleman about the German Police-marked Victory revolvers. As I remember it was fairly general in its content, not particularly detailed. It can probably still be found on the NRA website. There may well be more scholarly articles on the topic available but I do not know of any.
