With blued guns, over time the bluing will come off near the muzzle. We've all seen six guns with this wear. My question is: how do nickle plated guns handle it? Seems to me that they would hold up better to holster wear.

My nickel 1974 4in Python that I carried on the job for about 18 years did have holster wear on the muzzle quite similar to my blued revolvers.

Nickel can be damaged from constant rubbing on leather, especially heavy use like a duty holster. Dirt or other material can accumulate in the bottom of a closed end holster and accelerate the daamage. No one I know does it, but I suggest cleaning out the interior whenever you polish the exterior. Something like a bottle brush is a good tool for brushing out debris.

Nickel plated guns are more resistant to holster (and other) wear than guns with a blued finish.
That's why so many guns were nickel plated.
Stainless steel is even more wear resistant than nickel. That's why manufacturers started making guns out of stainless steel.

Nickel holds up better because it is a harder finish ...
harder to rub / wear off .

Of the best is a Stainless Steel gun !
I stood in line waiting to get a new Stainless Steel 1911 ...
a AMT Hardballer ... I Love Stainless steel .
Model 64 S&W is another favorite stainless steel shooter !

Nickel Is Nice ... but Stainless Steel are Nicer !
