We have all gone on YouTube to research how to do a certain procedure, how to repair a plumbing issue, a car or household appliance. If you are good at discerning which video's are worth their salt then YouTube can be a great tool - no argument!

But now YouTube has been flooded with propaganda video's, political video's filled with falsehoods and misleading information, scams, feel good video's about animals, people etc. that are narrated by AI and are total totally BS! IMHO this is nothing more than an attempt to train or condition people into believing what they want them to. I'd say half of YouTube is filled with this junk now!

No matter what the hobby, information platform, educational platform, broadcasting business, etc that starts out with all good intentions, leave it to the ones with an agenda to stink it up! I truly hope everyone here fully realizes what YouTube has become as of late and is savvy enough to avoid all the scams, games and information gathering schemes. Not saying to negate YouTube all together, just navigate through it with caution and skepticism!

YouTube is what happens when you have a large group of amateurs that are not knowledgeable on their subject matter (but pretend to be) and their segments are unedited. There is some worthwhile matter on YouTube, but inexperienced newcomers who are unable to sort truth from falsehoods assume YouDupe material is gospel. Lots of bad information is spread in this way.

Many criticize paper gun publications, but the information in them is edited by professional editors who generally do a very good job publishing factual material, leaving out that which is superfluous, worthless, and erroneous. With no editing or poor editing, you wind up with something like YouDupe. Many YouDupe personalities would never get their material past a real editor for publication in a paper magazine.

Again, there is some good stuff on YouTube, but there is much that's not.

I figure AI will generate so much content that is of poor quality it will drown out the good stuff and YouTube will die. What do we need YouTube for if we have AI too?

It's not just scammers. Russian, Chinese, Iranian, and North Korean disinformation units do these things all day, every day, to be sure no one believes anyrhing except what these cyberwarfare units want them to believe.

I’ve always thought that AI’s takeover of the human race would be unlike those scenarios depicted in movies like “Colossus, the Forbin Project”, “Terminator”, or even “War Games”, but much more insidious and subtle. Right now, all the AI enhanced content is human initiated, AI assisted. But what happens when (not if) AI becomes truly sentient? The most successful ambushes in history begin with psy ops against the enemy, getting them to second guess decisions and sowing distrust amongst allies.

One of my late father-in-law’s favorite parables was that of the boiled frog. If you toss a frog in a pot of boiling water, it will jump right out. However, if you put a frog in a pot in warm water with the heat on, it will remain there until boiled alive, unconcerned about the slow rise in temperature.

Ok. Rant over. Maybe I’ve just watched too many Sci-Fi movies in my life.😏

I was taking the dash out of my wife's Camry and got stuck at one point. I found a YouTube video that showed me how to do it that featured a very attractive young lady in short shorts and a halter. I had to watch the video three or four times to make sure I got the info right!

For the record she knew what she was doing and the info was correct.

This is nothing new. Youtube has been prone to this sort of thing since its inception.
Give an open door, spotlight, or opportunity for idiots and they will take it. Every single time.

Youtube is just a symptom. The real problem is societal. Or, maybe it’s just human nature?

Our education system, as another example, is toast.
And that includes so-called “higher education”.
Collegiate graduates today have a lower proficiency level of literacy (not to mention basic maturity) than high school graduates 50-75 years ago.

Coincidentally, there’s an interesting parallel between colleges/universities and Youtube videos.
That is, there are far too many bad ones!

It goes back to the “too many opportunities for idiots” thing…..

I agree... it's so bad now that I spend more time FILTERING the facts and truth from the all the Bravo Sierra than I do actually viewing the facts and truth. It's appalling how much absolutely WRONG information is being published on the internet.

Almost everyone is a self-identified "expert".

"AI Overview

It's difficult to pinpoint the exact percentage of false information online, but studies suggest a significant portion of what's published is inaccurate or misleading. One study estimated that 62% of online content is considered fake, and 86% of global citizens have encountered misinformation, according to DemandSage. It's crucial to be critical of information encountered online and verify it through multiple reputable sources."

That's why I pay for youTube Premium...As much as I hate giving the matrix my money, I hate ads, delays and forced propaganda worse...As much as I use YouTube, it's worth it to me, as it avoids most of that.
