YouTube has truly gone down the tubes as far as trustworthiness, ethics and the truth are concerned!

...and not for the better.
Out of curiosity, I ran one of my old pics through an AI program. What came back was me in a mini skirt and long blonde hair! I looked so good I wanted to ask me out!

I would share the picture here, but I deleted it. Besides, that pic would have not only got me banned from here but would give me the death penalty in 12 star systems. Human eyes were never meant to see anything like that and I will discuss this at length with my therapist.

In all seriousness though, if AI...which is becoming more and more the norm and improving by the minute and can make a guy that looks like Uncle Fester look like Valerie Bertinelli in the 1980's then you KNOW nothing good can come of this.
AI is about the change the world.

I usually just scan quickly to see if the author is just wanting to hear (and see) themselves and get out of that self worship episode. There are some neat things I enjoy watching especially new technology that I enjoy. With my house situated and a new car there are not that many things I need to learn any specifics about.
I guess it's like the TV shows where they are trying to discover new talent. At least they are filtering out the ones without any talent whatsoever.

I have learned to look for videos on firearms, e.g. where the producer has made real efforts to produce a professional quality video-proper lighting, the host /narrator speaks clearly, well done closeups-knows their subject. Seen plenty on history topics, misspellings, wrong dates, same old stock footage , etc.

Well this is where AI is really gonna hurt, because that is what it does best. Right now the hyper professional look is what is giving away that the vid is ai generated.

I have seen many homespun YouTube videos that were poorly produced by those lacking language skills. However their information was spot on.

These fall under that "book by its cover" thing.

Try replacing a dash light in a 1965 Lincoln Continental. The shop manual starts out with "Remove Dash assembly".
I used a blindfold and two fingers, felt my way to the bulb and turned it 90 degrees with those two fingers, then lowered it down and checked it to make sure it was the proper broken filament. Then holding the replacement between those same two fingers and blindfolded since sight was useless I reinstalled it and turned it 90 degrees back to where it worked. It took over an hour fighting cramping hands and fingers constantly.
AI, utube, it was an 8 hour job and a nightmare of potential squeaks and rattles. That was 50 years ago. I think a radio shack TRS 80 was the first PC and the internet was a figment of someones imagination.
I wouldn't even dare to try that same job today. No way these old arthritic hands could ever do that again.
I don't want to mess with anything like that today, just pay a young person who has that same dexterity and knowledge.
After half a century and 200 rebuilt vehicles, I took some of Pops inheritance and bought a new car. Hope it last me until I no longer want to drive. It it makes it 15 years and I do the same, then I will just hire someone to do that job. :)

I couldn't count the times YouTube saved me from having to hire someone to do things.

Just a couple days ago I found out my exhaust fan wasn't working in my second bathroom. I only go in there to flush the toilet now and then.

When I pulled the cover off it looked like it was dry walled into place. Watched a couple Youtube videos till I found a good one. Had it replaced in 4 minutes.

Same when I wanted to replace the grill in my truck with an aftermarket one, and upgrade the front door speakers.

Most of what's online now is not even generated by people. AI algorithms, churning out clickbait 24/7/365...

It is hard for You Tube to mess up movies an music videos. I often turn to it for mechanical procedures. There are phonies and incompetents there, but they are pretty easy to spot.
