Oh, the Irony.

I recently posted here that I intend to carry until I die.

Maybe not so much.

I've been having memory issues lately. Things like turning on the water in the kitchen sink and walking away to do something else and forgetting that I have it running. That's actually the most common one.

Forgetting what day it is, forgetting what month it is. Getting my holidays mixed up. Like we just had Easter and I'm thinking Easter is coming up.

When it first started I was on two medications (Avortastatin and Metoprolol) that have a side effect of affecting the memory. I'd been off both of them for longer than a month when I went to my last VA appointment.

They gave me a cognitive function test and the RN who gave me the test couldn't give me a diagnosis but she did say there's something going on there and reccomended sending me to a memory specialist. She actually said they needed to send me to mental health but she clarified that that was a memory specialist not a psychiatrist.

The other day I was out walking at the Paint Mines and I caught a lady who I am absolutely positive was scoping out my car looking for things to steal.

Now that I've gone to Great Lengths to let you all know that my brain is slipping I ask you to please believe me that is what she was doing

I've seen enough people doing that as a security guard that I know what it looks like. I can't come up with another reason why she was walking around my 21-year-old car looking in all the windows.

I yelled at her from the trail and told her to get away from my car. She walked over to a rock next to her car and sat down.

I'm not going to waste my time with the whole story what I should have done was walked up to my car, got into it and left.

Instead I walked up to the car and started screaming at the lady.

She immediately told me that she was just looking at the car because she didn't know what kind of car it was and she was curious and she thought it might be a Ford Focus.

You all know that's b******t right? That's the kind of story that a tweaker gives you when you catch them doing something they're not supposed to be doing.

Either way, I was ranting at this woman and yelling at her and calling her a liar and telling her to stay the "heck" away from my car.

I don't lose control like that. In fact I live my entire life trying very hard not to lose control like that.

So I got in my car and I drove away and I went home and I told my wife about it.

I've had the night to think about it and I don't trust my brain anymore.
I'm not a diagnostician but that outburst was very much the kind of thing that people with Alzheimer's are prone to.

I think it's time at least until the VA finishes their tests on my brain for me to put the guns down.

So sorry to hear of your memory issues.

Lets hope the VA can get to the bottom of it and hopefully it isn't permanent.

You might ask about UTI type issues because if untreated can lead to some issues similar to yours.

I applaud your ability to make the correct decision for you in this matter.

I hope it all works out for the better and you get the help you need to get back on track

Can't 'like' that but your judgment is clearly 100%.

Inner ear infection (Dad just had MRSA in an ear canal) can impact both cognitive function and memory as well, but I'm sure you'll get thoroughly examined.

You have my respect for taking a critical look at yourself. While you may be seeing things in yourself that bother you, I'd say your post is that of an intelligent and rational person. Not everyone is capable of self-inspection or articulate communication as you have shown here. Yes, a further look-see is probably smart, but don't be too hard on yourself. And yes, put the guns up until you sort things out.

Sounds like you have a plan and I applaud your self awareness that you could make a terrible mistake and harm someone or yourself.
As a State Trooper, we had the responsibility to perform follow-up investigations on folks whose driving abilities (medical/psychological/physical limitations, never simply based on age alone) were questioned. If the complaints were substantiated, we then submitted a report to the Bureau of Motor Vehicles and they would require re-testing or if a medical condition, the BMV could require Physician documentation for reinstatement. The investigations ALWAYS involved making in-person contact with the subject of the complaint and interviewing them at length to document personal observations. For some reason I seemed to be assigned all these investigations. I was always amazed at the times during the interviews when the subjects willingly admitted that they were concerned about their own abilities and just didn't want to admit it to themselves but my involvement helped them to face the facts.

Hopefully it’s nothing big and you can get sorted out soon and be okay. Massive respect to you for being self aware and knowing something is going on and not being too stubborn to do what you think is right to keep everyone safe.

Again, hoping it’s something that can get sorted out and that you’re not in for a long, difficult road here.

These are my vitamins. Every morning since shortly after I got married I have woke up (when I worked nights I took them when I got home) took my vitamins and got about the rest of my daily routine.

My wife just asked me if I took my vitamins today and my mind went absolutely blank.

I don't remember how I said it but I had to ask my wife if I even took vitamins at all.

That's what I'm talking about when I say something is wrong.

I give you much respect sir for recognizing that something has changed and you need to find out from the professionals what is going on and a plan to get a handle on it. I pray that the rest of us will learn from you. Godspeed!

Praying for you

I'm sorry that you are suffering from memory issues, but I think it is great that you recognize the problem and are acting in a very responsible fashion. I can pray for you too.

Smoke, you’ve always shown us you’re an honorable man. We’ve disagreed a few times, but I always read your posts.

You are to be commended for noticing something is amiss. Let’s hope it’s just a minor issue and “fixed” easily.

Not a medical professional but your writing remains clear as it can be. Believe that’s a good sign.

Take care of yourself, please.

I applaud you accepting that there’s something going on. It’s far too easy to dismiss factors until something escalates and can no longer be ignored or a temporary problem becomes a life changing event.

I’m sorry to hear of your struggles and hope the best for you. When you know, you know. Don’t give up pursuing the cause and treatment.

I would absolutely check your medications !!!!!!!!!!
Lipitor is a memory killer and a lot of the old pain medications that are really anti seizure and depressants like nortriptaline will really affect memory in exactly the way you describe. There are doctors who say that Lipitor actually causes altzheimers.

For years I was prescribed Nortriptaline for peripheral neuropathy. I noticed that I had trouble remembering names and why I had entered a room or other small things. I then had surgery on my neck and Kaiser stopped prescribing that drug because it was causing folks to fall which it had done to me. Within a couple of days, all of that memory problem stopped and everything became crystal clear again. After that my High Blood pressure medicine was changed a bit of the old stuff returned only much less severe. I decided that the slight impairment was worth the results and continue with those medicines. Point being we are all wired different and some people have drastic but subtle issues that are not recognized. Gamopatin (SP?) and those type drugs are big memory killers too. There is a book about Lipitor written by a NASA doctor about his personal issues that sheds light on this. "Lipitor the thief of memory". Something is causing all of this alzheimers ,the war on cholesterol and these drugs are a big suspect.

Anyone paying attention is aware that the drug companies are not curing anything, in fact they want you sick so you'll buy more of their BS drugs. How many autistic kids do you remember when you were growing up? None for me, now there are millions. in 1950 the best cholesterol numbers were in the 2-300s now the doctors want you down to 150 (a number pulled out of a hat) and the doctors are paid to make sure you are on all of this crap. Every cancer patient is worth about $35K to the drug companies, after 50 years and trillions of dollars of cancer research it has risen by 75%. Make sense?

Have them test you for Lyme disease.
"Kris Kristofferson was treated for Lyme disease with a combination of antibiotics, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, and transcranial magnetic stimulation, leading to significant recovery from misdiagnosed Alzheimer’s and fibromyalgia symptoms."

The only medication I currently take is 500 mg of Metformin twice a day. And whatever the minimum dose of Apixaban is once a day. They put me on a 10 milligrams of Atorvastatin 2 days ago. Clearly that is not affecting my memory or if it's affecting my memory that fast we're in trouble
