I found a gun that I have been considering for a long time yesterday. It was a 617-6. No pictures posted because it is nothing special. I look at all the 10 shot models by all the manufacturers every time I go to this LGD because he has a large stock of all of them. I always go to the used handgun counter first and there it was, a nice 4" 617. The price was tempting as marked, but when I asked what my price was, he dropped it $100. No brainer. when I got it home, and went through it, it looked like it had never been fired. No residue on cylinder or muzzle. The bore looked like it had just been rifled with no lead or copper deposits. I have several 17s of different age from pre to 70s but I have been intrigued by the 10 shooters. I haven't shot it yet. but I can't wait. The moral of this story is if you kinda sorta have to have some thing and just don't want to pay a price too far, just have patience and it will probably show up sooner or later. This was the 4" that I prefer. I don't list the ser# in my books. It is a EEUXXXX and the box lists it as a 160584A 2004-present. I hope it's not one of those Friday afternoon builds. I'm still looking for that old 4" Python at the right price and condition.

able mention in my collection.

I have a 4 inch 617 10 shot. It is a beautiful well-balanced gun. It is very accurate! I'm happy that I bought a speed loader and block for it. It is just great to shoot. I had a 6-inch model, but it wasn't as balanced for me as the 4 inch. It's a keeper for me!
 
Is it as special as mine?

Bought a used 617-10 4 inch a few yrs ago. What a can of worms, spitting, terrible trigger, misfires, hated the skinny serrated trigger. Hurt to shoot it DA. Replaced parts and played with it a while and finally debugged it. Nice revolver now. Recently picked up a 617-4 6 inch for my birthday. Rough trigger but no spitting and so far has been 100% reliable. Dropped a wide smooth K22 target trigger in it the other day. Need to mess with it a little more to smooth it out. IMG_1112.webp
 
My story of the 617 revolver, I always enjoy telling it. I bought my first 617 no dash in late 1980's or early 1990's. It was an 8 inch barrel with full target trigger and hammer treatment. Loved the revolver but the 8 inch barrel was just a little too much, so I worked out a trade on one just like it only 6 inch barrel. God I loved that revolver, but for some reason that makes no sense I traded it on something else, which I no longer own. Then a year later or so I had an opportunity to replace it with the exact same revolver only lightly used, but I didn't pull the trigger and buy it. Then a year or two later I found and bought a lightly used 617-1 with a 4 inch bbl, but no target trigger or hammer, so I bought it. It has turned out to be my favorite of all. Yes, I would like to have full target trigger and hammer, but the action is so sweet on mine that I don't want to risk changing it. This is my current 617-1.

Mine has a wide smooth trigger, but the hammer is narrow and and the checkering on the hammer is sharp on thumb. Haven't shot it yet, but intend to in the next few days. I'll probably take a 17 and a 48 along to compare.
