I haven't posted here in a long time but find I must acknowledge the fact that my Straightline pistol turns 100 years old this year and still looks and fires like new unlike myself.

It looks great! Too true, a well made firearm will outcast many owners if it is treated with care.

You could fairly say that if you can think of something that substantially differentiates it from an ordinary striker fired semi-auto. (Admittedly, the straightline is not a semi-auto.) In any case, happy birthday to your centenarian.

As I recall, the Straight Line was the child of a survey S&W sent to single shot and other target shooters asking for input that S&W could use to design the next series of target pistols. Unfortunately, the reality was that the hammer was sluggish, dragged in the frame, the trigger pull was unpredictable, and the design aspects were not embraced by the target shooting crowd and it was discontinued.

No I did not. A friend of mine's father died and he had this pistol. Friend was not a gun person so he let me be the owner of this fine piece. I am not that old!!!! Yet!Nice!

gunship didn't show you how the opened. Another oddity from S&W.
And low production numbers make it very desirable for collectors. When I bought mine the original metal box was included. It was trashed but a restoration is in the cards. At the same live auction a pristine example with a perfect box and rare unique tools were included. As I recall the price was ~$5000.
I thought as much, with that screen name. Both my units, the 187th AHC Crusaders and the 190 AHC, Spartans were in III Corps but we did work in the Northern part of the Delta including around Vinh Long. Welcome home Brother.

Prior to the Delta, I was with the 176th AHC out of Chu Lai in I Corp until the unit stood down in Oct 71.
Yea, they were moving a lot of people around in 71 as units stood down.

gunship: I flew for the 229th AHB 1ST CAV DIV on my 2nd Tour out of Bin Hoa in 111 Corps in 71 & 72. Flew mostly D & H Model Huey's. 1st Tour I was assigned to Aco 2nd of 2nd Mech Inf Bn 1ST Div 68 & 69 out of An Loc 111 Corps. As a Mech Inf Plt Leader I was still fairly young back then. And these 2 Tours were one of the most exciting things I ever did in my life. I still think about it and dream about thoses 2 Tours of Duty most every day & night of my life. Still miss it everyday. I am glad You made it home. And I turely hope You have had a Good Life.

Retired W4: My Mech Inf Unit ran alot of Convoy`s from Lia Kie to An loc, and then on to Quan Loi and back again in 68 & 69. Brings back alot of memories. Thank You so much for the picture. I am glad You made it home. And I hope You had a good life.
