I would look at some of the Turkish clones. I bought three SAR pistols this year and I really like the quality of all three. (One Glock clone, and two CZ clones) The CZs work as well as my CZ branded pistols. I don't have a Glock to compare the Glock clone to, but it is reliable, accurate, and comfortable to shoot. The SARs are built to NATO specs and competed very well in trials compared to other, and big name, guns. For the three, I paid a total of under $600.00, plus tax, shipping and FFL fee. The "new" generations are far more expensive, but at places like Palmetto, you can still find some real bargains on "last year's models."
There are dozens of well made, accurate 9mm pistols out there...just go to a local gun show or gun shop and handle a bunch of them and see what fits you best. If you're looking to add an RDO, be sure that the pistol slide is machined for them.

M1911 - Beretta/Taurus 92 - High Power Clone - Sig P226 .... I like and shoot all four frequently. I would have to say M1911 and Sig P226 would be my top two.
I would go with a full size 9mm 1911 to give yourself practice with the 1911 platform - or something very similar to that Kimber for the same reason

I think your idea of having a full sized in 9mm for the range is a great one that will help you save on ammo costs and keep round count lower on your edc.
I am very partial to the S&W M&P 2.0 line. The metal frame ones are even better but that will stretch your $700 budget especially by the time you add an optic. You could stay under that with the regular polymer framed gun + optic I think.
You should be able to find deals on a used Sig 320 which I would not hesitate to buy!
A CZ P09 Nocturne is a highly underrated option too, IMHO.
Whatever you pick I think it’s going to help you shoot more and keep ammo costs reasonable and that sounds like your goal. Good luck!

My EDC is an FEG PA-63 made in Hungry 9x18mm Makarov, military & police copy of the Walther PP.
To me range time is training time and train with what you carry.
In order to have affordable ammo I reload to factory specs but only carry factory ammo.
Been carrying it since 1993 off duty and 2013 retired inside waist band.

I carried a P-01 for 23 years and found it the best 9 MM for carry out there.

Concur. The Shadow 2 Carry is the only 9 MM I gave up my EDC P-01 for.

I have a 1911 SIG Match Elite in 9mm and it is a fine shooting piece with adjustable sights. They are discontinued, but come up for sale often. Beyond that look at Dan Wesson Pointman 9. Both are full size and stainless and 9mm
