Recently purchased this 5” model 29-2 shipped on 1-24-63. I’m working on the case for it. Pictures don’t do it justice. Please add your 5” guns with their extras.

Added picture of refurbished case with extras. Another picture post 61.

Model 29-2, S231233, shipped on March 7, 1963, to H. H. Harris in Chicago, IL. Shown in original clamshell case with warranty card numbered to the revolver and accessories. The cylinder has an "L" stamped on its rear surface indicating it has an extractor rod and stem with an improved left-hand thread. The second photo is of the 29-2 without its accessories.

44 Magnum, S170040, shipped on September 11, 1957, to Marshall Field in Chicago, IL in correct case with accessories. This is the fourth 44 Magnum shipped with a 5-inch barrel and the only one factory engraved (by S&W Master Engraver Russ Smith). This 44 Magnum was featured on the cover of Gun Digest Treasury in 1977.

Wow, just wow!! If you ever get tired of that one, I would love to add it to my collection.
 
Researching the invoices of S&W, I found that approximately 300 44 Magnums with a 5-inch barrel were shipped by the company. This includes Pre-29s, Model 29s, Model 29-1s, and Model 29-2s. H. H. Harris in Chicago, IL received approximately 70 percent of these guns from 1958 through 1964. The 5-inch 44 Magnum has become increasing popular with S&W collectors, particularly in the last several years.

S&WCA members can read an in-depth article about 44 Magnums with a 5-inch barrel in our Journal. See Volume 56, Number 1, Spring 2022, pages 45-51.

Congratulations @RT44nut ! That is a great example of the 5-inch 44 Magnum.

Here is a 29-2 44 Magnum I own that was special ordered with a 5-inch barrel and yellow front sight insert for Richard L. Todd of the Arizona Game and Fish Department. It shipped from the factory on December 15, 1966. I expect this was a lovely Christmas present.

That factory engraved 5” is just amazing.

And here I am with a lowly 629 classic 5” that I think is the most well balanced easiest to shoot 44 mag I own. And I have a 3” 4” 6” and 8 3/8” and a 6.5” classic. As well as a few RedHawks and Super Blackhawks and vaqueros

Sad to see how far Chicago has fallen in 65-70 years, when somebody was ordering a ton of cool stuff back in the day from the factory.
 
So here, once again, is my version of the 29-2 5 inch. I've posted it before, several times, not an "official" S&W 5 inch but a 5 inch 29-2 none the less. It has a 544 barrel, roll marked as a 44 Magnum. Probably a Performance Center project but we'll never know for sure as it is "open on the books."

S130881 has a yellow insert but it is not mentioned in my letter so it's likely an aftermarket change on mine.

This is a Bowen conversion of a 28 in 45ACP.

I used to own this gun. I sold it here to member Sigkev, who put it in this box.

It was one of the H.H. Harris guns.

I found a brand new 5 in. 44 mag barrel on Ebay one time, thought it would look good here. I was right.

A 5 in Reg. Mag. that shipped to Evansville Board of Public Works & Safety in 1939.

A Pre War 38/44 Heavy Duty with a 5 in. barrel.

A 27-2 Pinto with a 5 in. barrel

This 25-7 with a 5in. barrel, in 45LC is for sale in the FOR SALE section right now.

5 in. N's are as good as they get, no matter what the caliber.

It would be fantastic to see a current expose on this thing! At least more pics.
I am not a BIG fan of engraved guns but some just grab you by the and won't let go.

Nice one there.
