I've been searching for quite awhile now, for a quality Model 65 3" round- butt revolver, but as most of you know,
when it comes to "good & cheap" in regards to this model that's a tall order to fill, as they're not easy to come by.

Finally, I lucked out last week & snagged an honest 98% example at auction for a winning bid of just $450.00 (all
in with buyer's premium, tax, & transfer, I still paid just $577.43 OTD)
. Gun came complete with matching factory
box, VCI parchment paper, manuals, & blank warranty card. While the gun has been previously fired, I fairly certain
that it's got less than a box of ammo through it ... I'll post better pic(s) when I get a chance...

Did the price on these dumpster, or did you get super lucky? Last I knew pretty much any 3in K was approaching $1000.

I paid right about $1000 for mine (very clean w/ box) some time in 2024. I doubt prices have cratered that much. I’m guessing OP was very fortunate, and I’m quite jealous

I've been on the hunt for awhile, I was extremely fortunate to snag this piece at a local NC auction for far below what has become the normal retail price on these sought after, vintage, revolvers.

You did super well! Are those two tone grips? I don't get out much anymore and I don't remember seeing any like that.

The grip is the standard (black) Pachmayr "Gripper" style. This was the factory supplied grip by S&W on this particular gun, as per the factory label on the matching serial numbered box.

They're not "two tone", but the area with the "checkering" has developed a benign, whitish film known as "rubber bloom"...

I've seen this before on rubber grips, particularly ones that have been put up for years in storage, on both aftermarket products as well as factory rubber grips on Colts and S&W revolvers. It is not mold or degredation, but rather, an easily removed surface condition. I just haven't gotten around to cleaning it off yet.

Nice catch! And thanks for that article-I’ve always wondered about that.
