I've been looking for a Model 27 for quite a while because, to me, it represents the pinnacle of the classic S&W revolver—top-of-the-line craftsmanship, all the premium appointments, and what I consider the true luxury revolver.
A factory nickel Model 27 has come up for sale locally, and I've always been partial to nickel guns. However, I also hear so much praise for the Model 27's legendary Bright Blue finish that it has me wondering.
My question isn't about the general merits of nickel versus blue. Rather, is the Model 27's Bright Blue finish so extraordinary that it's worth holding out for? Or is the factory nickel finish on a Model 27 equally exceptional in its own right?
