New Puppy - What was I thinking?!

After my best buddy passed away a couple of years ago and I weas left with just one. I decided to get another GSD puppy. After bringing him home last Saturday (18 Jusy 2026) I soon remembered what it takes to raise a puppy! I reckon it'll be worth it as the weeks, months and years progress. Here's 'Hondo', 9 weeks old and 22 lbs.

My current GSD (11 years old) and the pup are getting along pretty good so far.

Puppy breath in the morning! He’s a good looking dog. I have one Weim. My second. But, one at a time! I had my daughter’s little backup dog here today, dog sitting. He was here for the first time. He and Angel the crazy Weimaraner got along well. Angel says hi to the new puppy!

Start budgeting for new carpeting, but it's worth it....

The good and bad of puppies is that they stay puppies only for a short time.

I always thought of German Shepherds as differently looking Rotties :)

Growing up in Germany, ~50 years ago, they were both used as police dogs.

They certainly are! That's why I got two. I've never had two puppies at the same time before... now I know why!;)
422 mile round trip to get them and $500 apiece. Well worth it even with the MANY thousands of dollars for vet bills that were my fault. These guys are my family. I'm going to be in for a very rough time when I lose them someday. They just turned 4 at the end of May.

Have you ever seen a Saint Bernard puppy? Maybe not! 😁

OK, all puppies are great! No doubt of that. I was never around a GSD puppy until his owner brought “AJ” around to our little country airport when he was Hondo’s size, or a bit smaller. AJ loves everyone and convinces them they love him. 😉 AJ is 2-1/2 years old now. Great dog.
 
The dog in the John Wayne movie "Hondo" was a collie. Also he had a collie in "Big Jake". Both dogs were killed in those movies. I liked both of those movies but can't watch when the dogs die. I still can't figure out why a collie was chosen to be in a western. They need a lot of brushing. Not what you see out in nature much.
