Red,White,& Big Blue 250th

Dang. You're faster than me.
I’m old school. It’s a tool, not a fashion statement. To me the blue grips are ugly and cheap looking. The red anodized cylinder release is obnoxious and seems out of place. And the laser engraving (etching really) looks cheap.
This, to me is S&W “dressing up” something in an attempt to make a buck. If it were something really special that actually depicted our nation’s struggle I’d be more inclined to like it. Something like actual hand engravings (not a laser ‘engraved’ quasi flag) depicting some of our nations struggles from our nations beginning through today. Special WOOD grips with a unique pattern.
Of course I’d have gone farther and included your choice of a IWB or OWB specially tooled holster for the occasion. Also an engraved walnut presentation box with a custom medallion inset in the lid and a special set of tools for the occasion.
Now that I’d consider purchasing. The way it is, it reminds me of toy makers who take an existing toy and doll it up because a of a popular movie.
As for collector value, I have yet to see a ‘commemorative’ firearm increase in value as much as a standard model. Take the NRA Centennial Colt SAA. Instead of gaining a lot of value it’s one of the cheapest ways to get a real Colt SAA.

The colors are tacky, but you could get a modern and lockless 66 for carry by getting the 66 and swapping the grips. Getting rid of the red on the cylinder release would be nice, too.

In 1976, Ruger engraved every gun they made to commemorate the Bicentennial. That was patriotic

It would have been much better if they had simply reintroduced the entire Model 66 lineup without the ‘thing’ and perhaps with an accessory 250th grip and case separately. That way they could have had the best of both worlds. But then that would have made too much sense.

It does kinda have a bit of a Marvel Comics/Captain America air to it the more you look at it. Maybe they're trying to advertise to the young folks? Can't blame them for trying.

The return of a lock free Model 66 is great news, especially with the short barrel.
