Anybody else but me get excited about pistol lanyards? (pics)

Does the RCMP still issue lanyards on service weapons, as opposed to those worn on parade in the red coats?

What color is the daily use one, if so?

The use of a lanyard as a weapons retention device during a struggle is an interesting subject. When I was in the Navy, Quarterdeck watches and pier sentries had thier pistols on a lanyard more to keep them from dropping thier pistol into the water!

Now, Marine Sentries were another matter. They were a quite a bit more serious and better trained. They kept thier pistols on a lanyard so that no one could just bat the pistol out of thier hand. You were gauranteed a wild struggle if you tried to take one of those guys guns. On the ships I was stationed, Marines were embarked to protect the ship, ships weapons and high ranking officers.

I have a contact in Hong Kong, who supplied the RHKP lanyards in the photos, who said when he first started in the RHKP (31 years ago), the pistol was worn on the weak side, the lanyard was run through an epaulet shirt on the strong side, so that the lanyard lay across the front of the body. This was later changed to where the lanyard was run through the back of the belt, pistol still on the weak side, so that the lanyard ran parallel with the belt, less chance of someone grabbing the lanyard in a struggle. Now, the pistol is worn on the strong side in a modern police retention holster, no lanyard.

Here is my Highway Patrolman. When I bought it it had the hole for a lanyard. I got the lanyard loop from S&W. I need to make a lanyard for it some day.

Lanyards? No. I do like a good butt swivel once in a while.
Watching a nice butt swivel, yeah, that can get exciting!

Yeah, guns don't float, do they?

I love lanyard loops, especially after I learned how to use the one on a 1911 as a bottle opener.

Okie John
You can also use the ejection port on a Browning Hi Power as a bottle opener.

I love this set up. Did you install the lanyard yourself, or Bowen?

Canoeguy,

I agree... lanyards look great on pistols. You're ahead of me on the S&W's. I'll have to get a couple.

Here's a nice one on a Webley Mk VI rig:

I LOVE THIS SETUP! Would this be the same setup that was used during the Zulu confrontation protrayed in the film, "ZULU?"

I would love to know more about this one. Perhaps a range report?

Keep those great pics coming.
