Default Which has more felt recoil?

Would a lighter bullet or heavier bullet have more felt recoil with the same power factor using same type poweder/primer and adjusted for fps?

Example, power factor (fps x weight) of 165,000

185gr bullet at 892 fps
200gr bullet at 825 fps
230gr bullet at 718 fps

Setting up some loads for IDPA CDP class in my 45ACP.

Thanks!

I have done a lot of work with the 44 Mag in handguns, and with an adjusted power factor for bullet weight, I cant say that the felt recoil is lessened or incresed....but, I can say that it is "different". The light bullets seem to "slap" , and the heavier bullets seem to "push"....or, thats how I percieve it to be. Try a few of each out for yourself and you make the call.

Recoil is a physical and measurable reality but yet it has to be experienced personally to arrive at a conclusion about relative differences.

The rearward thrust force that is actually"perceived"can be far different than the actual math involved would predict.

The heavier bullets will feel like more of a thump, the lighter more like a snap. Play with your powder choice some and you should be able to get that 230 load to feel real soft...

Make sense? None of them are "hot", so recoil should be fairly easy with all.

In order to calculate the actual recoil generated by each load a powder charge weight (and gun weight) is also needed.
The results can be pretty surprising. While almost everyone will say the heavier bullet will produce higher felt recoil, the lower mass of the powder charge, and lower velocity of the bullet often negate the effects of the heavier bullet on the the recoil produced.

The hot ticket in IDPA is to use a powder like Titegroup and a medium heavy bullet for the caliber.
The Titegroup with the 230 gr bullet would give the least recoil of what you listed. However, if you use a slow powder that requires a heavy charge, the recoil will increase noticeably. The powder gas comes out a lot faster than the bullet, so has a considerable effect on recoil.

Part of it depends on the type of gun you are using and your shooting style, so not everybody shoots the same loads.
