Default Is anyone using Solo-1000 in their .38spl?

I'm a long time reloader, but new to .38 Spl, I bought some Precision Moly 147gr FP's and have large quantities of Solo-1000 available, as I use it to load 12ga, .45acp, .40S&W, 9mm, .380acp, and thought it would be neet if I could use it for .38Spl also. If not I also have some True-Blue, and small amounts of Unique, and 3N-38 on hand.

What diameter are your 147's? I tried shooting my 147 precision moly's sized .356 in my 586 and they made a mess in the barrel. Too small of a diameter for my Smith. I switched to a 170 RN sized .358 from Billy Bullet and is working fine. The Precision 147 moly's with Solo 1000 work perfect in my Glock 34 with no build up of anything after 300 rounds. I originally bought the Precision moly's for the Glock and just thought I could use some in my 586 for the steel league.
The Solo 1000 is a good powder for the moly bullet.

It's a good powder for 38SP. I used it often at one time, until I switched to Solo 1250 for some specialty sporting clays 20ga loads (3/4 oz). It was pretty clean, not as much as Nitro 100, but not bad and certainly better than Unique for clean and metering. I use mostly WSF for everything general purpose these days.

Please, what was your load data in .38spl? The 147gr Precision Moly's are sized .358 and I'm seating them to 1.430 OAL. I couldn't find any data from Accurate, I know it's pretty close to Tightgroup and Bullseye, so I took a huge chance, looked at starting load data for those two, averaged them, and reduced it by 25%. So I started by loading some up with 2.5gr, 3.0gr, and 3.5gr. Then went out to the range to chrono them, going from low to high, watching carefully both velocity and for any kind of pressure sign.

First I shot some Monarch 158gr Factory ammo. The average velocity of ten rounds was 649.6fps. This is only 102.6 power factor, so this factory ammo doesn't even make minor for IDPA/USPSA in this gun.

I started with the 2.5gr loads, they where way underpowered, Average velocity of ten shots was 453.7fps. Obviously no pressure sign.

The 3.0gr loads ten shot average was 536.5fps and again no pressure sign.

Finally the 3.5gr loads, ten shot average was 601fps. again with no pressure sign, this is still only 88.3 power factor. This one might qualify as a nice bunny-fart load though.

Tonight, I'm going to load up some with 3.75gr and 4.0gr to try on my next trip to the range, It can't be tomarrow, since it's turkey-day, but would appreciate some data if anyone's already done all this experimentation.

It was a very high energy, very clean powder for my 12 Ga. trap loads but the price kept going up to where I had to give it up..................
never got around to pistol loads.

If it works out, maybe you could post a picture of a target, to show me what I missed out on.

Tight groups.
