Default Win 357 145gr STHP Reloads

Hi. I am new here. Please bear with me if I am repeating a recent question. I have acquired several boxes of Win 357 145gr STHP bullets. Having trouble finding load data. Can anyone provide data using AA-7 powder or ?

Thanks, Carl

Heres a link for Accurate powder Data:

I have no experience loading Silver-tip bullets and they are not listed in this guide, so I would contact Winchester or Accurate and see if they will give you a starting load.

Any reasonable data for 158-grain jacketed bullets will give you a good starting point.

Here is a handy site. It doesn`t list AA7, but it offers some alternates. It is great for other caliber, bullet weights as well.

Default hmm

I have been running 11.7 grains of aa 7 under a 158 grain xtp..my only worry is that aa 7 does vary a bit so I'm not sure where to tell you to start.

I do think that I worked up from 10.3 grains of powder..I am .4 grains over accurates data for a 158. My gun is a 6 inch 586.

Are these bullets sold as components or did you (or somebody else) pull them? I don't recall ever seeing them for sale. I pulled one and was surprised to find that the base of the bullet is exposed lead. Velocity with the factory load is lame, presumably to prevent leading via melting the base of the bullet. How hot do you intend to load them?

I'd be curious to these exact questions too. I'm going to work up some home brew SD loads that I can shoot in my 66's. That rules out the excellent 125 grain bullets (forcing cone cracking) and I couldn't find any of these for handloading.

Yes these are availble as components. My distributor has been carrying them for at least a decade that I can recall.

Hodgdon has plenty of data for a Speer 146gr JHP. I would think you can use that data if you work up the loads.

My Winchester Reloading Components Manual 2003 Edition shows the factory equivalent for the 145-gr STHP is 17.5-gr of 296 with a heavy crimp developing 31,600 C.U.P. It's a very handy manual which provides load data that is the factory equilant for shotshell, rifle and pistol.

I understand that you're looking for AA7 data but I just thought I'd add this Winchester-specific info. Here's what I have for Accurate #7 data from one manual.

Speer #13 shows their 140-gr JHP with a similar-looking bearing surface to the Silvertip uses AA7 starting at 11.1-gr and MAX at 12.1-gr so a 10% reduction should be plenty while allowing for the missing five grains. A footnote says that when using the Speer 146-gr JHP-SWC to reduce the MAX charge by one grain so that seems to agree.
