Casting
I just finished casting my handgun bullets for the rest of the year. see photo. The containers are 50 cal ammo cans. All I need to do is size and lube them as I use them.
I have enought cast rifle bullets to last until cooler weather sets in.

Nice! Those cans can get pretty heavy when they're full.

Good looking supply! How long have you been casting?
How long did it take you to get these done?
Well worth the effort and guess what, if the family comes over and you shoot all of these up, you can just go make more, even if they cannot be bought! hahaha

I have been using a Master caster. It took 6 weeks, just casting no more then a couple hours a day, 2-3 days a week.
I have about 1000 more of each, sized, lubed and stored in wooden trays that I use for my current reloading needs.
When I get down to about 200-250 bullets I restock out of the cans. They get sized, lubed and placed in the empty wooden trays.
I don't think I would want to carry them d*m cans very far.
I have been casting since 1970.

That's a fair pile! I try to do my casting over the winter. I have plenty of rifle and .38, but every .45 bullet I have is in brass. Enough for maybe three months. I'm going to have to cast in the heat one weekend soon...

Wow that is awesome, I only have about 1000 ready to be sized and lubed and 500 or so ready to load.

I wish Lee would make a six cavity mold with that SWC style bullet. I cast their 200gr SWC but it is more like a round nose SWC if that makes any sense. But my 1911's all gobble them up and they shoot better than I can aim still so it's not that big of a deal. I just like the look of those better. I assume you must have a Star lube/sizer if you are running a Master Caster. That is my someday setup. I still tumble lube and use the Lee push through sizing die. It works but the alox is messy and time consuming. Well... It stinks too...
EDIT: A visit to the Lee sight shows they do make a similar mold... Don't know how I missed it but it will be on order very soon...

Wow! And I'm thrilled when I can make 200-300 out of a Lee 2 cavity in an afternoon sesson.

I used to think the same thing. Spend the extra money on a six cavity and the handles. It is a mind altering experience. Honest.

This is really the way to go. I cast on a 40 second cycle and 2 hours gets another easy thousand into the can.
Of course, I wouldn't mind having Beans' Master Caster either... I'm just not willing to pay for it.

Try casting with a four cavity brass mold... I love the amazing quality HP bullets I can make with the Cramer design mold, but that brass block starts to feel like it weighs a ton after a while... It's a real left arm workout after an hour.

Bob,
Do you have the brass or the Lee 6 cavity adapted to the Master Caster?
Isn't the Master Caster an automated machine? What do you need to have to convert a mould to one?
I too have to agree with your analogy about the Lee 2 cavity moulds. It didn't take me too long to figure out that their 6 cavity was the way to go. Then I ran into the Mihec moulds from Castboolits. Now listen, if you want a casting TOOL, that is the way to go for modern moulds. The H&G moulds of days gone by are the best in my opinion BUT are well out of production. I know that someone still has the cherries but......
Miha's moulds are second to none that I have tried. The Cramer HP version is simply the best and fastest way to cast a bunch of HP boolits.

The Master caster is a manual machine. You can have them convert any two ( steel) cavity mold to use with their machine. Most of my molds are RCBS that I purchased off ebay and have them converted to use on the Master caster.
Magma Engineering also has their own molds. The cost for their mold is about the same as having one converted. But doing the conversion, on your mold, you have a much larger selection of bullet weights Etc.
They have a good selection but not always what exactly what I wanted, especially in the rifle calibers
The caster is fast to use. No lifting of the molds. Pushing with one finger allows the melted metal to flow into the mold, a pull of the handle cut the sprue and sperates the sprue from the cast bullets. As I water quech all of my bullets I have a bucket of water set beneath the machine that catches the cast bullets.
I can easily cast between 200-300 Bullets per hour for several hours without tiring. I will post a photo of the set up after church today.

Throw in a 20# bottom pour pot too. I can acutally cast more bullets per hour w/ a 6cav mold than I can w/ my MasterCast estup, but I can cast for hours on the Magma machine w/o any fatigue. As Beans notes, the Magma MC can run any iron mold w/ a conversion. I like the machine, but bought it waaaay back when it the price made sense. They have gottne pretty expensive for the hobby caster & a good 4 or 6cav mold is faster for less money. Reminds me, I have bullets to cast.

2 hours is about all I care to cast in a stretch these days. And that with aluminum blocks. I have cast with 4 cavity H&G molds in the past and I'm glad I'm not using them today...
