You can send it to Dillon, pay a small fee, $40 or so, and have them go through it and replace all the worn parts in it. I did that with a Square Deal press and then gave it to son #1. He is using it now and it will last him a life time.

Are there any extras that come with the press? A roller handle is $XX and a strong mount is $XX and a tool kit is $XX and a spare parts kit is $XX.

Add up the extras if there are some and see if you are getting a good deal.

I will put it like this, if you turn around and sell that thing in two years, you will get 100% of your money back. The trick is to make up for that by cranking out TONS of ammo until then!

A decent price, but if it's stock, not a great price. The only real "wear" would be the primer slide area & some parts on the powder measure. If it's rusty, could be a problem. All can be replaced for free from Dillon, just give them a call. I wouldn't bother sending it back for a checkup, might as well buy a new one then. Roll the dice, ask for $350 & get it home.

the 550 also now has a case feeder available and would really make that baby sing!

I had a 550 for over 20 years, my very first & only reloader of ANY kind.

Tons of lead down range, eventually I sold it for more than it cost new and bought a 650!

You can't get hurt financially on a Dillon press IMHO.

These are good points but remember to check for all of the original parts. Make sure it comes primer pick up tubes, primer magazines, and primer seating stems for both small and large primers. If it is complete, $370 is a good price.

When the 450 came out a friend bought one and told me to skip my next firearm purchase and buy a Dillon. Eventually I did and my only regret is that I waited several years before taking his advice. IF all the little parts and pieces are there that sounds like a good price. Once you get over the short learning curve you will probably be like me and wonder why you didn’t buy one sooner.

I have three 550B (9mm/38spl/45acp).

the last one I bought was new old. meaning, it was bought brand new, stuck in his storage building about 5-6 years ago and never screwed it on the bench.

It had surface rust on some areas, especialy the press shaft. steel wool, oil and TLC and $300 complete.

it was from a brother officer.

The one I bought prior was another brother officer who got it when his grandpa died. he decided he wanted an AR instead and offered me a package deal for alot of reloading stuff.

If I had to separate the price....I paid $275. it was well used, but still every bit as good and will offer me plenty of reloads for the rest of my yearssss.

I would try and get it cheaper.

I doubt that the press can wear out that much...

I got a Dillon 550 from my Brother-in-law awhile back as payment for money he borrowed...anyway when I got it it was dusty and rusty infact the ram's movement was limited due to the rust. Between yesterday and today I broke it completely down, cleaned and polished things getting it serviceable again...

It came with 38/357 die setup in one tool head and a 44spl/mag setup in an other tool head. There was little bit of rust on the outside of the dies but the insides cleaned up really well. The powder drops cleaned up OK but I will polish them a little more later on.

Other various tools, primer tubes, screws, pieces parts which need cleaning up also. Still have a few more small what-nots to clean up yet.

All in all the Dillon press is ready to go!

Now I need to find some 40S&W/10mm things like shell plate and thru the expander plug. Then I may give this a try for some target play.
