Default Why Buy Dillon?

I'll tell you why. Yesterday my low primer warning device died. The battery was not the problem, BTW. I e-mailed Dillon to ask if they sell individual components or if I should just replace the device, now 5 years old (for $25). I heard from them today. New parts enroute, no charge. That's why I buy from Dillon!! Nobody does that any more. Wow!

Most Dillon users I know have similar stories. One guy even bought some old Dillon equipment through ebay, and Dillon helped him get it working for no charge. That's why to buy Dillon!

When you see that kind of commitment to their customers, you just have to appreciate it.

I've always had good luck with Dillon. I have an original Square Deal I bought back in the 80's and it's still running strong.

I shoot SASS Cowboy Action Shooting and we shoot a lot, timed on the clock. I have had a Dillon for 20 years and it has always provided me with exact load after load. I would advise you, if your looking to buy one, and load for several calibers, to look into their easy tool head assy. I load for 4 calibers and it is a matter of minutes to switch back to my favorite load in another caliber. If going from large primer to small primer it requires about 15 minutes to change the primer feed bar.

I too have received "freebie" parts from Dillon. But only once. It was the only time I needed it. And it was the plastic tip for the primer pickup tube.

Someone asked this question just a few threads ago: "Why does everyone that sells reloading equipment compare to Dillon?" Exactly!

Same reason when you compare American luxury cars you say Cadillac.

Is there equipment out there as good or better than Dillon? Sure, but it is in the marketing. Not just the girls either. Personally, I find that detracts from their product.

What sells their product is customer service and functionality.

Case in point: I bought a RL450 on ebay just a few days ago. It has a "B" conversion, whatever that is, and after about 1/2 an hour, it was up and running some 44Mag for me. Found some parts that needed some help, called, got some parts coming on the way. Not much, but still. This press was discontinued in 1984. So, I got free parts for a press that is AT LEAST 27 years old.

Just sayin'

U can put 1 primer in the tube & put a brass rod in & a 90 bend on the end & u have a low primer sensor for free. Works ok for a powder sensor also if u put a plastic lid on the end of rod.

My Square Deal is close to thirty years old. Never a 'breakdown' or broken part. Was ordering a set of dies the other day for a new gun/caliber recently purchased, the gentleman asked me if I had ever replaced the ram bushings (nylon), I said no, no problems...no need at this point. He described how they can wear over time (as I would expect) and asked if I wanted to replace them...I said no, thanks, but I'll give you a call if and when there looks to be an issue. I admit part of me was thinking there was some up-selling going on, and I didn't need to buy something for which there wasn't a problem or concern. Guess what...he included new bushings in the order, no charge, commenting that should they ever show wear in the future, I would have backup and wouldn't have to shut the assembly line down at an in opportune time. I love Dillion

Have a Dillon 1050 the older model prior to the Super 1050. Dillon considers these "commercial" machines and I believe warranties them for only a year.

I had an unexplained primer detonation, which blew the primer rod into my ceiling, and made a mess of the internal primer tube, the low primer warning device and both my nerves and the poor cat who lounges on the bench when I load.

I called Dillon the other day and was ordering the parts to get it up and running again. The Tech asked what happened then sent me not only the minimum pparts I had ordered but an entire new primer tube and shield assy. All for no cost.

Dillon and Leupold ....both go above and beyond for customer service.

Now you see why American customer service cannot be managed from a 3rd world country no matter how good the communications. You cannot beat companies like Dillon and Leupold who stand behind their products, do whats right and fix their customers problems!

Companies like Dillon and Leupold stand behind their products because people who purchase their products pay for that level of customer service. Nothing is free.

Not to mention, there presses flat work. That is not easy to say about the other manuf. I find all reloading manuf have really good CS, but Dillon's no BS warranty is by far the best. I had to almost beg to get a replacement part from Hornady the other day, kinda pissed me off, I offered to pay for it too.

Default I guess I must be different

I have 2 Dillon 550's and, by the way, like them a LOT and have reloaded tens of thousands of rounds on them. However on the two occasions I've needed parts I called Dillon and received excellent timely service, but had to pay for the parts both times. I guess I should not have admitted that the breakage was probably my fault. Regardless.....a great product.

Beside the excellent customer service, what I enjoy the most is the outstanding repeatability of the powder/belling die. Always the same powder weight, never changes. Secondly, the tips you get when you call them for advice are spot on. Great guys.

I want to get into reloading myself. What Dillon press would you recommend and what kind of $ investment would I be looking at. I just want to be able to make .38, .357 and .44 mags. Probably only load a couple boxes of each every month. Thanks.

So ok, you guys have sold me on a Dillon press. Now I need to ask you is which one? I'm just starting, have nothing, and I will start with a single stage. I'll be loading .44magnum .45acp and 500 magnums. And I'll add a .357 at some point. Which one has it all? And what are the pieces I MUST HAVE with it? Thanks for anyhelp you can give me and if you throw in a picture of two that would be aprreciated also.

Absolutely true. And I try to do exactly that in every aspect of my life. I find that companies that value their reputation make a better, more reliable product. It costs more up front and I understand why. Knowledgable workers, better raw materials, tighter tolerances, return policy, etc.

And the more American workers I can help keep employed means that many fewer on the news with their 99% signs!

My first time here, and I am looking around and see the post about buying a Dillon. There is not a better press on the market period. I have a RL550B that I have been using for 20 years or more. Any problems that I have had have been resolved by calling CS at Dillon. Very friendly and knowledgable guys. I have also never been charged for anything to repair my press. Last year I bought a Hornady AP, thinking I would like a second press on my bench. I have had several problems with the primer feed, and have found that I can only use CCI primers. I have never had that problem with my Dillon. I would estimate that I have loaded 50,000 rds to 75,000 rds on it in many calibers. I shoot mostly Cowboy Action now along with Wild Bunch, I load 45 Colt, 45 Cowboy Special, 45 ACP, 357 Mag and 38 spec. I had a problem once with alignment of the shell plate, one of the screws had worked loose. I called Dillon and they sent me an alignment kit to correct the problem. NO CHARGE. I have also recommended Dillon to many of my friends that have wanted to reload and I have set up many presses for them. I should have been a dealer, could have made a buck or two. Anyway, buy Dillon for quality and service, you'll never be sorry.

Absolutely right! When you buy a product that you will be using for a lifetime you want to ensure that the company will be there to support you and the product in its day to day application. You cannot expect Cadillac service and quality on a Lada budget.

Same here. I broke the plastic piece that holds the primer guide rod...my fault...called Hornady wanting to buy a new one and they sent one free of charge.

I did buy some Dillon case lube in the spray bottle. After only 50 cases I threw it in the trash...the sticky stuff was a mess to clean off my sized cases...not impressed at all.

Sunday I loaded 1000 rounds of .38 Special wadcutters on my 550. It took just under 3 hours with me checking the powder drop every 100 rounds (never varied at all, with a 2.6gr load) and filling 5 primer tubes halfway through. That's pretty good speed without breaking a sweat.

My primer alarm broke the first month I had the press but it's so easy to feel when you're out of primers I never bothered to get it replaced.
