Berry's Hollow Base Round Nose - Anyone try 'em?
I have had good results with both 9mm 115 RN and 124 gr HP from Berry's. Thought I'd try their 9mm HBRN-TP. Before I put out the $$$ I thought I'd see if any of you had tried them. Is the hollow base more accurate as advertised? Does the longer profile require any changes in method of loading? Any and all info would be appreciated.
Thanks,
~ Alan

Blujax01, I'm glad you posted this question, as I have been curious about trying those same ones as well. Just picked up my 9mm dies, and trying to decide which boolit to start loading with. I know's Berry's Mfg. has a representative on the board, hopefully they will be able to shed some additional light on the subject.

For my M&P, the 124gr RN or HP seem most suited to plinking and club matches.
If you have a target 9mm you are shooting at bullseye, you may get better accuracy with the HB, but I doubt you'll notice with a service pistol. YMMV

I loaded my first 9mm using GA Arms 115 gr hollow base and my first couple of boxes went great. But I have nothing to compare to, as that was my first effort at reloading the 9mm bullets.

Reason: sorry wrong manufacturer after I looked!

I've had good luck with the .45 version. 185gr I believe they are.

Theoretically they should be a bit more accurate but as mentioned will you see the difference in a regular non target pistol?
The price seems almost the same give or take, so nothing to lose trying them.

I have tried them as well with good (not great) results. The important part is that they function flawlessly in regards to feeding. For everyday shooting and plinking these are great.
Berry's in general produces nice bullets.

Plated bullets have been lack luster in my Glock barrels (9mm, 10mm), but the new hollow base, thick plated bullets do better. I'm using the flat points (HBFP-TP).
Maybe they grab the shallow rifling better with the hollow bases, just a guess.

Google "berry's 124 hbrn bds". Since I can't reference the other forum, that's the best I can do for you. The first listing that came up for me will take you to all the information you'll need including another link to real range comparisons and results by bds. I've got some on order right now, and the 124 grain HBFP's that I tried previously were more accurate than the Berry's 124 RN.

While I haven't tried the 9mm, I have had great results with the Bear Creek 200gr RNHB in .45ACP.
This is the first I've heard of a 115gr RNHB in 9mm. I like Berry's bullets in general so I'm definitely gonna give 'em a try.

Available in 124 only. Sorry if my message lead anyone to believe otherwise.

I've been using the Barry's 9mm 124 grain FPHB exclusivley for well over a year. I used to use the same bullet in the flat base and didn't adjust my seater when I went to the hollow base, so my OAL stayed the same.
My 952 really likes the load!!

I've used some Berry's 185gr .45 acp hollow base round nose over 5.4gr WST in my SW 625. They are accurate enough and are naturally very clean. I'll have to chrono them and see if they make major PF for competition.
In the past I loaded Berry's 124gr bullets in 9mm. I think they were the double struck variety. They shot well, but weren't as accurate as Montana Gold or Zero FMJ bullets.

Blujax, I have used Berry's 115gr, rn, and 115gr. rnfp. I have been using them exclusively for my 9mm. and 40 S&W applications. Have not tried HB, as I did not know that they were available. Cabelas often runs sales on Berry's. Bob

blu,
I used to load the 185 gr hollow base ball for IPSC events in my Colt over Essex gamer gun. Same profile as military ball (fed very nicely) but the lighter bullet kept the muzzle flip to a minimum. I loaded and shot a beaucoup of 'em. They are fine components and still made major power in my loads.
Be aware they are "plated" bullets and seem to tumble/keyhole if you drive them at very high velocities.
