Zombie loads?
seems with Hornady and Brownells preparing for the zombie apocalypse I figured the reloading fraternity would have members pondering the ultimate zombie load ideas.
Two on deck at my bench are a 200G 45 auto hollow point filled with dried habanero powder for your zombie smoking pleasure. the other is a shortened #0 buck load 2 1/4" that should allow an extra round or two in the mag.
so ... whatcha got cookin' doc?

Subsonic 9mm through a suppressor as far as handloading goes. But in all actually, a 22lr suppressed would be the way to go. Both through carbines. Pistols don't have the capacity to fend of hordes of zombies.

My special AR-15 "Zombie Mags" are loaded some inspiring 223 loads, using 36-grain Barnes Varmint Grenades over a stiff charge of H-4198. Velocity is a bit under 3800 fps, and the splatter effect should be pretty awesome. Messy, but awesome. One or two per customer should be enough.

I have a .243 sitting around that could prove a zombie's mellon isn't all that different from a regular mellon, given the hyper velocity rounds it's shooting.
Don't see the reason to go bigger, just have to expose the brain stem.

I'm more of the shot placement crowd, all stocked up & ready to go.
While I'm waiting I'll burn a couple rounds on the range in my basement to keep in practice.

I cannot comment on exact load but I would go for any .357 out of a 6" Colt Python.

For my ZOMBIE pleasure, I like the 10mm stoked up with 200 gr Hornady XTP's @ 1200 fps or my 156 gr cast Lyman Devastators turncated cone hollow points running 1350-1400 fps.
Then again the 9x25Dillon pushing a 115 XTP @ 1850 fps will dust off quite a few! They crack like thunder but strike like lightening!

I just ordered a nifty NINJA bayonet mount for my AR , for close work.
Might have to load up .41 Mag, 215 gr SWC over a little SR4756 before the time comes.

We had a Zombie attack about 20 miles south of here by the Atlanta Raceway and I was heading down with my M&P15-22 with 4 mags of PMC Zappers. Imagine my embarrassment when I found out they were only shooting a scene for "Walking Dead" and the zombies were really just actors.

In case the ammo runs low, machete, tomahawk, or even a good crowbar all work well. Anything that will split an zombie's head is a good anti-zombie device. 22LR is good, it kind of stays inside the head and bounces around off the inside of the skull. Little recoil and you can carry thousands of rounds of ammo for little weight.

I'm thinking a 62gr bullet in a .223 case shot from a bolt action rifle so I can get them WAY OUT, don't want them to get too close after all...! Just shoot them in the head like a Dog Town!
If they get close #4 buckshot to the head and keep it coming...

the other is a shortened #0 buck load 2 1/4" that should allow an extra round or two in the mag.

I kinda like that idea, more is better than less when it comes to Zombi ammo.

I will probably just use the same ammo I would use to defend myself from Tooth Fairies, Easter Bunnies and of course, the Great Pumpkin!

It all depends. I like the slow moving zombies that Hornady depicts, now the fast ones in the movie Zombieland well their a different story. Kinda cheesy cartoonish type of hype to sell some ammo imho.

I can hardly wait! An AR w/ any type of ammo & a high cap 9mm for back up. Next best thing would be a 10/22 & a lot of spare mags. It's all about cardio & ammo capacity for ZOmbies. :-) IT is birilliant marketing by Hornady: The week The Walking Dead returns, just before Halloween, brilliant. In todays economy & cheap imported ammo, a company has to be creative. I give Hornady high marks in that department.

I like the campaign as well though its met with mixed results.
its something fun and gimiky to appeal to the younger set we'd otherwise lose to the antigunners. Without such efforts, we all lose in the end play of the game. If successful, we have a part to play in bringing up the newcomers correctly so that later generations still live under the great 2A

Call me a worrywart, but that line about "No human being, plant, animal, vegetable or mineral should ever be shot with Zombie Max ammunition." could come back to bite you in a civil suit. Yes, you can get someone from Hornaday to testify that the ad copy was tongue in cheek.

well you asked for it .... your a worry wart
seriously though, the underlying intent of the ammo is to spread interest like the zombie apocalypse virus rather than deal with the strain.
While the new recruits might be a little misdirected its little trouble to redirect them. Thats far easier than scouting for replacements to train.
since I began making bullets and molds I have lost some of my best customers to the ravages of old age.
Our demographic is one of "well seasoned" individuals who very well may take the 2A with em when they pass this Earth.
Z-Max seems to have been the best attempt at changing the median age portion of our group.

These first three aren't handloads, but anyway...
9 mm, Glock 17_19_26_34 - Winchester USA 115 gr FMJ 100 rd value packs - bullet doesn't need to expand, just needs to reach the brain.
12 ga, Rem. 870 - Federal 2 3/4" 00 buck with the Flite Control Wad and Federal 2 3/4" Slug
.223, Bushmaster Flat Tops 16" & 20" - Remington/UMC 55 gr FMJ for the AR's.
This one is a handload of mine, and it is a good one...
My .223 handload of 24 grs of RL-15 under a 75 gr A-Max gets 2900 fps from my custom built bolt action [G.A. Precision]. This load shoots sub 4" groups for 5 shots at 600 yards. It's perfect for when I want to reach out and touch some Zombie pukes without getting my hands dirty!!!!

If it's George Romero shuffling type of zombies, baseball bat/machete.
If it's 28 days later-coked up-type of zombies, stealth is better for me than Last Stand at the Alamo type of weapons. Unless you have a Ma Deuce, you will get overrun.
Nice reads would be World War Z and Day by Day Armageddon.

Let's see (I am a zombie fanatic, sorry fellas): AR 5.56, Rem 870, AR 50 Beowulf, and o'course the 627-5
Next in line is my Hoyt Crossbow which launches arrows at 300 FPS and several edged weapons including tomahawk (LEO entry type), machete, and sword. All ready to rumble.

Heck we just had Zombie Fest!
Parts of Day of the Dead were filmed here.
It's hard to distinguish between the locals and Zombies.
