Default Anyone reloading 32 S&W not long plain o'l 32

I am setting up to reload some 32 S&W for my top breaks. I am setting up a Dillon Square Deal (I do have the small powder set up installed). The press is ready to go but I dont have data for this round. My OLD Lyman book (43rd) shows only 85g bullet. I happen to have 100grain LSWC that I acquired some time ago.

Ideally Id like to use up these bullets, how much difference does 15 grain of lead matter in this little round?

The Lyman book shows 1G of Bullseye for the 85G bullet. I cant imagine going much under 1G?

I dont need any special loads just something to put holes in paper a 20'

Should I just buy the 85G bullets? Then buy another gun to shoot 32 longs out of

Any of you guys have experience with the 32?

I loaded a big handful of range pickup .32 S&W brass last year. I used 1.8 grains of Bullseye and the Lee 93 grain cast RN in my Hand Ejector. I got 575 fps with them, along with the pleasure of being able to see them clearly in flight with the morning sun behind me.

They were good for 3" groups offhand at 50', and had very low report and nearly nonexistent recoil. The cases were smoked up, so there was definitely room to bump it up some in that gun.

I just wanted to try out something a little different and have no reason to use them again; I wasn't out anything and picked up a little experience, but .32 Longs are small enough for me. I have no top breaks so can't help you with that end of it.

Default 32 S&W

If you are going to buy bullets, which I believe I would in your case, as I think 100 grains is a mite heavy for 32 S&W.
I would see if I could find a load for a wadcutter and check with Berrys bullets or Grafs and get the Berry's 83 grain plated wadcutter.
It is about all I use in my 32 Long anyway.
I like it because of no lube smoke. Another powder that might work well is
Trail boss, it has the least amount of lube smoke for some reason, maybe it is just because the loads are light ?
It is very bulky for a small charge weight.

See my post "Handloads for the .32 S&W" of Nov 11, 2011. It has some loads using Trail Boss powder. I personally would not use 100-grain bullets in top breaks. They are 15 grains heavier than the standard .32 bullet, and this is not trivial in a very small case. Why strain an old gun? Besides, this would give you a good excuse to get a .32 S&W Long to use up those 100-grainers.

A friend recently gave me a large quantity of .38sPC. Brass to reload but included I found two complete boxes of .32S/W winchester with85 grain bullets.. in original boxes. These were not reloads. I shoot .32 longs in my 1903 HE and wonder if they would work in my 32 long. I ,myself going to get a set of dies for the .32 long and start reloading for it.. I don't believe I would go higher than 85 grain in the top break revolver. You don't want to increase the pressure in those fine older revolvers. As someone just say, keep those 100 great pills or trade for some 85 grain.

CJW3, what dies do you have for the .32 long...and where did you find the Bullseye. It is none existent here but Red Dot is available. Will it work in the .32 long. I need to find a good load chart for the .32 long. Not listed in my manual.

Found a good chart on the web. Midway has the Lee carbide dies.need get an order out....
Good post guys.

I'd recommend extra small powder bar for such tiny charges of powder. Dillon recommends small powder bar for charges 3 to 20 gr

My Lyman Reloading Handbook, 41st Edition, from 1957 has the max load of 1.4 grains of Bullseye using an 85 grain cast bullet. That velocity, Lyman says, is 725 fps. It also lists a max load of 2.0 grains of Unique with the same bullet for 830 fps.

Re-reading your original post, seems like you've already looked into this, so never mind.
