Smoke em if you got em.
After spending five hours on a tractor, clearing brush, cutting tree limbs, and piling dirt to make a 100 yard shooting range, I just made up some fresh 308s to send down range to christen said range. Cant wait for next weekend to finish up some minor details on the range and then start having some fun.

I want to see a picture of the new range. I already knew what a box of .308's look like.

About the only thing I'd want land for...
I've gotten to the point where I'd rather live an apartment, condo or something similar. I'd just need room for a reloading bench and a wooded lot to build a range on.
You're a lucky guy.

I lived in farm country on 6 acres for 31 years, Then moved to a condo last September. I really miss shooting up to 400 yards in the back yard, but the neighbors don't miss "Boom" of a black powder 45-70 going off on any given afternoon. I went from 14 running feet of loading benches with with 2 progressive and 4 other presses set up, to 5' 6" with one progressive and one other press (and a spot to temporarily mount a third in) so, I'm feeling deprived. However I don't spend 60 to 80 hours a year or $300 for gas mowing. I live 5 min from an indoor range (expensive!) 15 minutes from the club with 50 and 100 yard ranges (life member) and within 1 1/2 hours of 2 ranges up tp 1000 yards. I've shot more skeet than in the last 20 years.
There are advantages to condo living, however I miss back yard shooting! Ivan

Where did you find 100 yards of flat land here in MD?
Eastern Shore?

No, Not on the Eastern Shore , although I see a lot of flat land over there. My Dad has 12.5 acres of land in the north west of one of the western counties of Maryland. Lucky for me and him it is only 25 minutes from my house. As he has gotten older and has been unable to take care of the homestead, My wife and I do most of the outdoor work for my Mom and Dad.
He had a small dirt pile that he used to shoot at, but now that he does not get around that well , I figured I would move it and make it so he can sit on his back deck and shoot safely once again.

Like that mastertech
My mom has a 12 acre patch of land on a hill and I help her take care of it. I have a nice little 60 yarder I carved out at the base down in the hollow.
I bought her a 410/45 colt rig for her 65th birthday last year and sometimes when I show up to shoot my targets are all shot to hell already:P

I spent 12 years in the Navy in Southern Maryland and there is some flat land there but you would have to shoot over a tobacco field or two. Don

That's good of you. I had a similar thing, my father in law had a place in Berkeley Springs WV..my wife and I we're up there a few times each month taking care of the grounds. We could shoot shotguns and clay pigeons but there was 70 feet of fall for a 100 yards of length and it was 3 hours away from our place in Harford county. My friends' farms around here are about the same....hills everywhere

My dad always told me never shoot down hill, it would bend your barrel . I told him I would just shoot up hill and straighten her right out.

Well it took me a while to get the pics. Life kind of got in the way, my youngest son had a scare , Lump in his neck. A lot of testing and surgery to remove , and then waiting. Thank God it all turned out O.K , He is now healthy enough to help finish the range , but here are a few pics so far. Going up today to splatter some 9mm on the AR-500 steel Should be fun. Pics are to the left and right . That mound is 8 feet thick with 16 inch logs stacked in layers of dirt. It is about 6 feet high and 25 feet wide.

Only 5 hours on the tractor......................?
Must be some pretty clean property. Lucky you.
Must be nice to not have to leave home to go shooting and large rifles, at that !! Sweet.
Any benches, roof, or major materials going into the project?

Nevada Ed , I was able to move a lot of dirt in five hours with my Dads 4WD Kubota tractor. The logs were already cut and I had stacked them last year, just had to move them ten feet or so into place. The back stop is at the back of a open field facing my Dads back deck. The field is clear and slops up to a crest midway across . Stepped it off today and we can shoot a little over 150 yards. As far as benches and a table , for now, we have a portable one. May get fancy next spring. We can sit on my Dads deck and shoot under cover off a table at 100 yards. That is why I moved the small back stop so he can step out and have some fun with out having to walk .
