Does anyone here load .38 Special buckshot loads, I don't have a use for them other than maybe for fun and a snake load.

I have loaded some #8 shot in the Speer capsules and found it not worth the trouble. How many Buck Shot can you get in a 38??

I had a friend who used the Speer handgun shot capsules to hold three 00 buckshot. Loaded them with the Speer data. Used them for closer range Grouse load in his .357 Ruger Blackhawk. Said he'd aim for the head and one of the pellets would take it off.

I have loaded birdshot and multi-bullet loads in .38/.357, the .44's, .45 Colt and 45/70.

The multi-ball/bullet loads are a lot of fun.

What would you like to know?

I don't load them but I have a few Remingtons that came out in the early 90's. They made them in 38 and 357.

#3 buckshot in a half jacked cup you can get 3 in a 38 special can remember powder charge but was bullseye

What I was thinking more specifically, is that I have some #1 buckshot lying around, and some very old 12 gauge #4 shot (old paper shells on their way out) and I don't own a 12 gauge. I was thinking about taking some of them and using them for some field loads, maybe small game if a squirrel or grouse was to get really close. Or if I am just walking about during the fall and one is a target of opportunity out a 3-4 inch gun.

I have used #9 shot for snakeshot but I highly doubt Buchshot will make a good snake load. As a matter of fact I would think anything larger than #6 shot in a .38 would pattern well enough to make good hits on a snake. (or maybe even #7.5 shot, not #6)

When i load up .38 Special snakeshot I use the Speer caplets to make things easy and fill them with #9 shot over 5.0gr W231. It works very well on snakes and has been proven in the field.

I have done the same (#9) with excellent results. I greatest distance I have shot is 11 feet; it worked perfectly - dead copperhead.
