Default Colt OP 38 sp load data for 2400

I finaly got some 2400 powder to load my Colt OP 38 sp and now I can't find data for it. Plenty for the 357 mag, which I will be loading. Someone told me that I could use this and posted some data but I can't find it now. I was told on here that this Colt could handle the heavey loads. I have loaded some pretty stout loads of Titegroup and it handles it Ok, no signs of over pressure and very little leading. I think it was 10 to 12.5 gr of 2400 wit 155 gr swc but until I get it verified I will wait. I have the 358429 mould ordered and will be casting them also. Now I have 140 gr SWC and the TL 158 SWC. 1 oz slugs for the 12 ga and 00 buckshot. I see where Blue Dot might work for the slugs and the 38 SP. Any thoughts on this.

2400 is not a good choice for lighter loads. It works best with heavier loads in .38 Special, 12-13 grains behind a 158 grain LSWC bullet will give you close to 1200 ft/sec. Your OP will take it, if that's what you want. It's a tough revolver. Otherwise, use Bullseye, Unique, or W231/HP-38.

Yea DWalt, I did a search here and found some forums and read about it. I loaded some 12 gr and 12.5 and 13.0 gr and tried them. They all did alright with alot of BOOM! You better have a good grip on it when testing these. A little primer flatning but very little with the 13.o gr but not a bad gruope. I had alot of loads and went out about an hour ago and tried them. I didn't think about it till I had blown most of the targets all to peices but saved some. For plinking I think I will stick with the 700x, mild and better groupes.

Default scan of some targets

I had to reload the scanner, lets see if this works. These are with 158 gr SWC TL. Sorry these are rifle targets for 100 yards with 20 bullseyes on each. I will down load some better ones next time.

I got some better targets downloaded and will use them next time. Maybe go out to 25 yards instead of feet also. My sand bags have gotten rotten so I will have to make me some more. Maybe tomorrow, I have to take my wife to the Doc in OKC soon and won't be back till late.

As mentioned, 2400 is not the best for 38 spl loads...........

You can get close to the same fps with half the amout of BlueDot and down to around 4.0 grains with the faster powders for good target loads.................

and 1/3rd the amout of high temps and gases that cut away at the guns metals.

There's often a reason when you can't find load data for a particular combination of bullets, powder, etc.; the use of that combo isn't recommended. Some may give such poor preformance they are omitted and some may be dangerous. Find load data before you purchase components, saves a lot of time and frustration...

I have read not such good things on here about Blue Dot. I was considering it because I could use it on 12 ga slugs also. What your opinion on the Blue Dot. I am going to save the 2400 for the 357 mag and stick with the 700X for now. Besides I have a 14 lb keg of the stuff I use for 12 ga skeet loads. It will last a long time at only 3.5 gr loads. Now all I have to do is find me a 357 mag long barrel, the one I had a line on fell through. My sister has a 357 I load for but hers is a short barrel. I load a ton of 223 Rem for several people, 55 gr Nosler and Hornady 52 gr HPBT. They have gotten real popular with all the media lately. They are just a pain to load, all the work is on the cases.

I've had a pound of blue dot sitting around for years.I seem to remember a warning about pressure spikes in cold weather?
Bullseye is good for 38 specials.

I believe some of the negative reports on Bluedot concern it's use with light bullets, 110-125grs. I haven't had any negative experiences with it, but 140gr. is the lightest I go in 38 Spcl. & 357 Mag. I've loaded this 140gr. JHP with 7.5grs. of Bluedot & 5.9grs. of Power Pistol, in 38 Spcl.+P, & are around 990 fps, according to the references. As much as I like 2400, I wouldn't consider it in a 38 Spcl. case. It likes to breath in big cases, with big loads, & higher pressures. B-D & P-P will be a lot cleaner at this level too. Work up your loads carefully.
