.44 spl. reload suggestions
I would like to start using my model 29's more often. Currently, i have only used 9gr of Bluedot in both a 6", and 11-5/8" barrels. I shoot at a 50' range and would prefer lighter target loads. My availabe powders now are: Bluedot, Reddot, 231, Unique, and Bullseye. Also, i have both 190gr. And 240gr. LSWC bullets. Any Suggestions will be appreciated.

7-10 gr of unique in a 44 mag case with 240 gr cast lswc works well .If you use a swaged bullet 6.5-7.5 gr will be about it.Any higher than that and they start to lead.
7-8 gr with the cast bullet is very mild.

These loads go back futher than my memory! both are very accurate and fun to shoot. 6.5 grs of 231 and any 240 gr. bullet or 5.5 grains of Bulleye and same bullet. I gave up on unique over 20yrs. ago! these loads were in mag cases.

For a 44 Magnum case 6.5 gr Red Dot and a 250 gr cast give you around 1000 fps and accuracy.

I have to say that the 7.0gr Unique is a classic load in the .44 Mag case under a 240gr LSWC bullet.
Recently though I have been using TrailBoss 7.0gr and been having a BLAST again with the .44s. Don't laugh - give it a try you will not be disappointed for an all day load in the .44 mag case.

An 'old timer' gave me his .44 Special load of 5 grains of Bullseye over the 240 LSWC. Accurate, pleasant to shoot....and my Winchester Brass has lasted forever with this load. I have been playing with 5 to 5.5 grains of Red Dot, although I don't have enough time with that load other than to say it seems to be good as well. I have a 629 with 6 1/2 barrel, and with the Bullseye load, the center of the target one ragged hole in no time. Frankly, I have no reason to try anything else.

I've never bothered with 44 spl brass in my M-29. The 5-5.5gr load of Bullseye under a 240g bullet in a 44 mag case is basically a 44 spl load and it won't clog up the ends of your cylinder with fouling/bullet lube

Guys, Thanks for the new recipies for .44spl. loads, and the .44 Magnum loads which I have yet to try. I got all the components and can't wait to report back. Thanks again.

Theres a gazillion possibilites. Dump some fast burning powder in a case that less than a max load and go. Save the bluedot for full charges though, dont download it.

Just re read and realize that most of the loads given are for 44 MAG brass not 44 Special.

I've been loading 7g of W231/HP38 under a 250g 429421 and 429244 in a magnum case forever.
In a Special case, I use 6.5g W231/HP38 under the same bullets.
It's @ 850 ~ 900fps load.
