Well, got to the range today. Using the data on Ramshot's website I loaded 10 rounds with 5.7 grains, 10 with 6.0 grains, and 10 with 6.3 grains. Out of those loads it liked the 6.0 grain load best. Testing was done inside with a so-so rest @ 7 yards. Nothing to write home about and I would guess these standard loads are in the 8-900 fps range out of my 640 Pro, I need to get out with my chronograph.

Now the good news. Being the 640 Pro I have is a .357 magnum, I loaded 10 rounds with 7 grains (THIS IS OVER MAX FOR .38 SPECIAL) and with group #1 had 4 shots in one hole and pulled one a little to the right, the other 5 shot group was one ragged hole. The bullet used in this testing was Sierra 125 grain JSP with Fiocci small Pistol Primers.

This powder was very clean burning. In the lower loads it had a LOT of muzzle flash but for some reason it diminished at the 6.3 and 7.0 grain loads. Why, I do not know.

I will chronograph the 7.0 grain load and post the results. It was snappy like you'd expect from a +p .38 special load, zero signs of over pressure. This powder could be a winner for what I wanted it for. .38+p and mid range .357.

Also, I have read that HS-6 and True Blue are the SAME powder, anyone know if this is true? I've read it on a few other forums. Load data is similar but not exactly the same as HS-6 on Hodgon's website. Thanks in advance.

Never heard the True Blue being the same as HS-6 but when I consulted my powder burn rate chart it was closer to HS-7 so I cant say for positive but doest appear to be the same or you would see them stacked together on the chart as is the case with H110 and Win. 296 or with HP-38 and Win. 231 if you see what I am getting at. Best to use the load data from the powder manufacturer here and keep yourself out of harms way . If you use the True Blue post your results if you would please. That is a powder you rarely hear of and is touted as supposedly not having the pressure spiking issues that gave rise to the warnings for Blue Dot in the .41 Rem Mag. Best wishes for success whichever way you opt to go.

I noted the same thing in burn rate charts and differing load data, not a lot different but not the same. I stuck to the ramshot data from their website which worked fine. My best load was 10% over max data of 38.special used in my 640 pro chambered in .357 mag. Very clean, very accurate powder. Just need to chrono the next batch, so far its a winner in 38+p.

Appreciate the feedback as this may well be what I am looking for in the way of milder practice loads in my model 66 with a 4 inch barrel. Were you using .38 cases or .357 cases for your +P rated load ?
