Default 30/30 load data for 160 Hornady FTX

Hi, Does anyone have load data for 30/30 Win using 160gn Hornady FTX bullet. I have IMR 4895 and Alliant Reloader 15, Reloader 7 powders? The firearm being used is a Marlin 336C.

That is the best bullet design that ever came out for the old 30-30 and Hornady hit the nail on the head big time when they finally figured it out.
Maximum energy and minimum drop at 200 yards...sweet !!

Hornady might even have a powder for this bullet c/o Hodgdon with the new powders that they just came out with...... LVR ?

Hodgdon.com should have data for that bullet.

Good shooting.

R-11 is the powder that is used for Fac. Dup. velocities in most of my manuals.

With the 170fr Jsp I did find 4895 and R-7 data and for your
load you might try a medium of the road load, since I do not know the condition of your rifle. The 170 fps was listed at 2223 in my Speer manual.

Start at;
4895..........32 grains
R-7 ......... 24 grains
with that 165gr bullet and work up.

PS;
Hornady has that bullet at 2400fps with a BC of .330 but companies are usually a little high on fps
so here is what you will get at 2200 fps.
With a 100 yard zero at 200 yards the bullet will drop 7.6 inches and have 1,112 ft/lbs of energy......
plenty for deer size animals with good shot placement.

Gieday,Mate.

That Marlin 336 lever action is built like a tank ...........
it was made to shoot the 35 Rem, so don't worry about it being worked too hard with your loads for the little brother, 30/30.

A lot of difference between a 165gr and a 220gr bullet at
almost the same fps.

That's a great rifle, and it will do you well.

I'm using Hodgdon Leverevolution powder with the FTX bullet in the 30-30. It works very well for me. Hodgdon lists data for 13 powders on the Load Data Site for loading the FTX bullet in the 30-30.

XTP's fall like a rock vs the plastic tip design but they will kill deer....
just have to allow for more bullet drop and less energy at maximum ranges but it is still a good bullet, just not the BEST.
Hornady ammo data has the 30/30 at :

150gr 300yards 1276 ft/lbs at .......... -29.6 inches
160gr 300yards 1699 ft/lbs at ............ -12 inches.
