I heard good things about Win Autocomp powder in 9mm or 45 ACP, even in non compensated semi autos. Any thoughts on this?

I have a S&W 5906 5" in 9 mm and a STI TargetMaster in 45 ACP, and the application is PPC up to 50 yards. I currently use WSF IN 9mm and BE in 45 ACP and I'm happy so far. Just curious about this powder.

I tried in once about a month ago in my .44 Magnum target loads and found ignition to be very incomplete. There was lots of unburned powder in and on my Model 629. From that 100 round experience, I would say it probably works better in hotter loads in order to get the temperature and pressure high enough to burn it well.

Over the years, I have found Winchester handgun powders to typically be dirty-burning powders - either in terms of incomplete ignition, making the gun filthy or both. But perhaps if you load them hotter than I feel necessary for perforating paper, they might not be so dirty.

AutoComp is an OK powder but Hodgdon's load data is terrible. It won't clean up until you load past max.

I bought several pounds of it when I could not find HP38.

It meters well and can be used for most applications. You do have to go near the high end for best results.

9MM

Howdy,
I use a load of 5.0 grains and Missouri's 125 grain "Small ball" in the 9mm.
I have several pounds that I need to use and it works good with that load.
Would I go and buy more? No. I'd stick with 231,Unique etc.
Good luck
Mike
