Default 800X for the 41mag ?

800X looks good in the manuals for the 210/220 cast bullet loads. Highest velocity listed, but not highest pressure. Anyone using 800X in their 41's.

I stopped using 800x more than a decade ago.

Most lead loads across all handgun calibers are now stuffed with 231

It`s as good a performer as you`ll find in the Magnum straight walled cartridges , but measuring will give ya fits !!

I usually add 1/2 teaspoon of powdered graphite to a # to help it go thru my Lee AD measure .

1 of my Redhawks really loves 800X & a 200gr. XTP , It`s the only revolver I shoot jacketed thru.

Wanted to add : 800X & HERCO are very similar & close in the burn charts ,but I feel it is even larger flaked then 800X, but my experience is it also is a "forgotten" performer for the Magnums.

I'll have to try it for my .41's...I use it for high-end 10mm.

Thumbs up

Have used 800X for my hunting loads since I started reloading over 30 years ago--- no reason to change. Range fodder will get 231 or Red Dot, for the most part.

Many years ago it was one of the powders used for Steel shot
reloading and I tried it in 38 and 357 loads.
Good for the 38 +P loads with the 158 lead and worked well
with most of the magnum loads..........
Finally ran out of it about two years ago but still have a few 38 +P 125gr G. Dots at 1050fps that shoot great in a 6" barrel.

It should work out for you but is a large flake powder..........
Good luck.

The ballistics are great but it is absolutely the worst metering powder on the planet except for the long grain rifle powders.
Many years ago I was impressed with it's velocity/pressure ratio and purchased a large keg for 28 ga reloads. First time I have ever experienced bloopers.

I went with 800X and will be putting a few more together tonite. I'll be interested in seeing how they perform.

I have a box of Sierra 210 HPs. They appear to have a longer bearing surface than the XTPs. Anyone have a Sierra manual? I wouldn't 't expect a pressure problem with 10.3 grains but thought I'd ask.

He was a patient man. The metering characteristics do require patience as noted. It's like running corn flakes through your powder measure. I don't load in quantity so it's ok. I have enough loaded up for a range run Friday.
