To Cannelure Or Not To Cannelure
I was thinking on getting some more Sierra .224 bullets but wasn't sure if I should get ones with or without cannelures on them. Not sure I want to spend the extra $20.

If you apply a crimp to your bullets get the cannelures, if not you don't need them.

I am barely putting a crimp on my .223 loads (.002/.003) so I guess I will save the $20. Thanks.

I don't put any crimp on my .223.
Cannelures are best used for hunting rounds, where you want the "peace of mind" of crimped in bullets.

Maybe if you are shooting one of the new "Black Guns" but I
have never crimped a bullet in my 22-250 Bolt action.
The factory Federal 55gr trophy bonded Bear Claw bullet was the only bullet to have a crimp that I have ever used for hunting.

I have to date never had the cannelures align with the necks on my .223 cases when the bullets were seated at their optimum accuracy depth . Therefore I have opted to just use the Lee factory crimp die to apply the crimp if needed .
