After using my Lyman Universal Trimmer the past couple of weeks to trim up a couple hundred .223 pieces of brass my hands got chewed up a little. Can anyone give me some input on the power adapter that you can add to it and use a power drill please.

I can't for the Lyman but I did a similar thing with my RCBS. I bought their silly little drill attachment but it does not stay in the trimmer. A guy on another forum makes one that screws in and then chucks to your drill. I then made a platform from scrap plywood to support the drill and just leave the drill on and slide it back and forth works great!. I do not know if he makes one for the Lyman. It was only $12 or so,

The set up and principal is the same. I use it for 308 Win which I do not need a lot of as I neck size them for a bolt action.

For 223 Rem the WFT is well worth the money. It works great and fast!.

Simple to use. Brownells, Sinclair sells it also.

How easy is it to setup the WFT or PHT and does it consistently trim to the same length every time?

If you're talking about the blister you get from the checkered knob on the crank handle, I covered mine with some adhesive tape and problem solved. You might try that. I do have an adapter shaft which allows the use of a drill but I use a small cordless screw driver. Works great for me but the crank set up is faster.

Takes 10 seconds to set it up and yes every case is the same.
Just check it in a drill. I mount the drill in a vise and lock it on, and trim away.

There is thread here on it.. ( do a search) I took down all my pictures though. There is also a good review on youtube comparing it to others.

I am not a gadget guy but it really does work well. Just slide the cutter bit in or out to the right length. tighten the set screw and you are done.

If you buy one (same price everywhere) get it from Sinclair as they have a forever satisfaction warranty. Don't like it, return it.

If you don't want to buy an adapter do what I did. Take the handle off. Now find a Allen head screw that fits the thread and screw it in. Now find an Allen wrench that fits it and cut it off, about 1 1/2" will do. Chuck the cutoff Allen wrench in your battery drill and go to town. I just did 500 223 cases this past weekend, no problem!

Yes, well worth it, get the carbide cutter also.

If you have a 1/2 portable drill, mill or drill press the WFT is a very good and fast trimmer - but unless you only trim one caliber you'll probably want to purchase the WFT 2 ($70), as you can get different rifle caliber trim chambers at $25 a pop and you'll probably need a new cutter at $20 a pop after 5K rounds or so.

Change out of trim chambers and set-up takes maybe 5 to 10 minutes at most.

They currently have nothing for straight walled calibers - rifle/pistol - but are thinking about it.

IMO the WFT is a little spendy if trimming for multiple calibers but for the extra money, it pays you back back in ease of operation and convenience. It isn't any better than a manual trimmer or a manual trimmer using a power drill adapter relative to consistent trim lengths.

Since purchasing my WFT2 - for 223, 308 and 30-06 I haven't used my Hornady trimmer for those calibers.

It works just like one hopes it would, in my experience. I run mine with a 12V drill and it works well. I broke down and purchased the adapter for my 30+ year old Lyman when I started working up loads in my Savage 10 FCP HS-Precision.
